BASIC PURPOSE:
The responsibility of the Laundry Assistant is loading washers and dryers, distributing clean laundry and linen and picking up dirty laundry and linen.
MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:
- Keep assigned areas clean, sanitary and antiseptic by high and low dusting, cleaning all washing machines, dryers and floors.
- Loading machines, separating linen before loading into washing machine.
- Collect soiled linen from wings and separate before loading into washing machine.
- Keep workstation and machines neat and clean.
- Fold towels and other linen; sort assemble and hang residents’ clothing.
- Help load linen in cart.
- Distribute clean linen to wings.
- Clean out lint traps on dryers.
- Keep machines supplied with detergent.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Environmental Services Director.
Requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Understand written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to operate laundry equipment.
- Physical exertion required at 100% of the time. Physical exertion is described as standing, walking, stooping, kneeling and bending.
- Climb a 3-foot stepladder 5% of the time.
- Turns, reaches, stoops and crouches 60% while performing tasks such as loading and unloading machines.
- Subject to noisy, hot, humid and busy environment.
- Possible exposure to infectious diseases.
- Physical job demands may be subject to possible modifications to reasonably accommodate individuals with disabilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: No formal education required.
Experience: Laundry experience preferred but not required.
