PURPOSE:
The Staff Development Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating ongoing educational and instructional programs, and for the development of reporting for measurement of training needs and results. The SDC is responsible for the supervision of CNAs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
· Recruit, interview and evaluate CNA applicants, hire and discharge as needed.
· Completes CNA performance evaluations on personnel, awarding merit increases fairly and consistently.
· Participates in weekly new hire orientation to include vaccinations and staff training.
· Encourage and facilitate further study and experience through in-house inservices, outside workshops and training and through Clinical Lattice Program, and state approved on-site facility classes.
· Assess current and future training/educational and instructional needs to include all disciplines and shifts.
· Assure quality education and training by utilization of authoritative resources and best practices.
· Plan, implement and evaluate programs to meet assessed needs and regulatory requirements.
- Utilize various training techniques to optimize staff learning; included may be lecture format, printed materials, hands-on demonstrations, role-playing, group sessions, one-on-one training, unit-based instruction, outside trainers etc.
- Develop continual education support materials to be used for reference once training has been completed.
· Develop, implement, teach and evaluate staff competency programs, which will demonstrate accepted practice standards. This is to include annual skills testing.
· Continually assess, evaluate, implement training progress and training procedures to monitor and analyze course effectiveness and update curriculum as needed.
· Develop benchmarks of program effectiveness and measure that effectiveness through data assessment.
· Consults with managers and supervisors to assess training needs and utilize as a resource for training.
· Provide educational support to all nursing staff personnel consistently throughout their 90-day orientation period and further as needed.
· Coordinate new employee initial and annual tuberculin skin tests and/or screenings to maintain accurate records.
· Promote and coordinate annual flu vaccinations to employees of the campus.
· Perform random screenings per policy.
· Participate in various human resources and quality initiatives and activities as needed.
· Support employee relations and engagement to ensure practices that maintain positive culture and staff retention.
· Maintains current clinical knowledge and knowledge of LTC licensure requirements in order to ensure that educational information provided to staff is current.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
· Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate education needs.
· Ability to determine staff learning needs.
· Provides leadership in formulating campus wide training and education goals and objectives.
· Excellent communication and teaching skills, both verbal and written.
· Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher programs.
· Geriatric health assessment skills (physical, mental and developmental staging).
· Knowledge of documentation requirements related to timeliness, accuracy and completeness.
· Ability to perform mathematical functions as they relate to pharmaceuticals and statistics.
· Working knowledge of State and Federal regulations as they apply to the campus.
· Ability to perform intermittent lifting, pushing and carrying objects weighing between 30-40 lbs.
· Moderate exposure to infectious diseases.
· Ability to remain flexible for training on all three shifts.
· Exposure to minimal noise and varying degrees of stress.
· Posses good organizational ability and strong interpersonal skills

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing.
Licensure/ Certification: Current NC licensure as RN, A.P.I.C preferred
Experience: Two years previous geriatric and/or teaching experience
