Responsibilities of the Automation Engineer
- Manage multiple projects and complex assignments.
- Develop project scopes, schedules, and budgets.
- Mentor junior technical staff.
- Oversee projects and report status to management.
- Apply expertise in hazardous area classification and control panel design.
- Act as a subject matter expert (SME).
- Create and manage estimates and schedules.
- Review engineering drawings and reports.
- Ensure designs are functional, economical, maintainable, and constructible.
- Develop and modify PLC and HMI programs independently.
- Lead commissioning and system cutovers.
- Interpret civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
- Provide on-site and remote support for automation systems.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
- Experience: 6 years in engineering and design; P.E. License preferred.
- Technical Skills:
- Industry codes and standards (e.g., 49 CFR 195, API 1165, NEC 240, UL 508A).
- Advanced PLC and HMI programming (e.g., RSLogix5000, GE Proficy Machine Edition, Factory Talk View Studio, Proficy iFIX).
- Ability to create I/O lists, data maps, functional specifications, test plans, control architecture diagrams, and O&M manuals.
- Expertise in cutovers and commissioning.
- Knowledge of automation systems in truck loading racks, pipeline facilities, and pump stations.
- Understanding of valve types, actuators, and troubleshooting wiring and limit switch settings.
