Overview
We are seeking a curious and motivated reporter who will be responsible for covering a wide range of news from assigned towns and breaking news from throughout the Southeastern Connecticut region. Plan, gather, write, and produce content for publication.
Responsibilities
- Gather information and facts; develop stories; write articles.
- Investigate, observe, and conduct interviews to gather information for articles.
- Report on current events at the local, state, and/or federal level.
- Write articles and headlines; prepares copy for publication.
- May take photographs or video footage of objects or places of significance.
- Produce stories with a digital first approach for the website and print editions.
Requirements
- Familiarity with the latest multimedia reporting skills, including audio and video interviewing.
- Excellent editing, verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to build and deliver publications.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work well with others.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficient with text management and desktop publishing software.
- Proficient computer and software skills (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Sheets, Teams, PresTeligence – Content Management Software.).
- Highly motivated, self-starting individual with initiative and drive to succeed.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities.
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work weekends, night and irregular hours are required.
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, or related field required.
- Two years of reporting experience preferred.
- Bilingual candidate preferred but not required.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license, safe and reliable transportation, including maintaining registration and insurance.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer and telephone.
- Must be able to traverse various terrains, on foot and in a motor vehicle, to cover stories and conduct interviews.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to cover events as required.
