Garden Center/Farmstand Retail Sales Associate
The DayDream Farmer is a seasonal garden center, farmstand, and year-round local farm cooperative (CSA) located at 892 US-9 Gansevoort (Wilton), NY. The DayDream Farmer also has farmland that grows some of the crops for the farmstand and cooperative organically.
The garden center/farmstand is open seasonally May - October. Mother’s Day and Memorial weekend are our biggest weekends which we ask for all hands on deck if possible.
Schedule:
- May - July 4th the garden center/farmstand is open every day:
M-F 10am - 6pm and Sat & Sun 9am - 5pm.
- After July 4th the garden center/farmstand hours change to 4-5 days a week. The final schedule is still to be determined, but definitely open Fri - Sun.
The garden center/farmstand part of The DayDream Farmer’s business is looking for a part-time employee. Specifically someone who could work the afternoon shift Monday - Friday, 1pm - 6pm. Along with some Sundays.
This position calls for an extrovert who loves talking, and helping people. Someone who communicates clearly, is naturally organized, has a pleasant temperament, and works well in a team.
The main job is checking customers out at the garden center/farmstand. Knowledge of plants is helpful, but not required, people skills and disposition rank higher in points for this job.
Duties will include:
- Keeping the farmstand and grounds tidy and organized. This may include raking, weeding, moving hanging baskets around, carrying trays of flowers. This position calls for working clothes, close toed shoes, sunscreen, and a hat. The work environment is outside/inside and can be hot, cold, wet, and windy. Person must be able to work in all weather conditions. Person must be able to lift 30 lbs and stand on their feet for extended periods of time.
- Restock farmstand with produce from walk-in cooler, following food safety procedures in place
- Unloading deliveries of plants and organizing them
- Watering plants, tagging plants, deadheading plants, generally keeping plants organized and well labeled
- Helping customers pick out plants, carrying plants to customers cars
- Harvesting some crops grown on site including cherry tomatoes, peas, and flowers.

- Learning to have an eye for when plants need water or are overwatered
- Learning how to use our automatic irrigation systems, mix up fertilizer, and hand water with a hose
- Person must be comfortable with technology and working a computer, ipad, or phone in order to check out customers. Person must be trustworthy with cash and run a balance sheet on the cash drawer at the end of each shift
- Applicant must be willing to learn/memorize our plant catalog to have a general knowledge of plants available
