POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting directly to the Museum Education Manager and indirectly to the Education and Community Engagement Director, the Part-Time Museum Education Assistant serves as an education assistant supporting the Education department’s philosophy and initiatives, assisting with studio and early learning art-making activities, providing support to gallery learning as a gallery guide, and assisting with the DAI’s mobile programming. The employee assists the Education department’s efforts to make the DAI a recognized leader and partner in visual arts education in the local community by connecting diverse audiences to ideas, stories, people and objects via the museum’s encyclopedic collection. S/he supports the implementation of studio art-making and early learning programs including but not limited to DAI’s Tiny Thursdays, ARTventures, mobile programming, community workshops and classes, and summer camps.
This position is part-time, based on a 30-hour work week. This position requires the ability to work weekend and evening hours. In general, the needs for coverage of non-traditional hours are known in advance.
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum three years’ relevant experience as an educator and/or artist
  • Volunteer in museums, schools, or non-profits; museum or gallery teaching experience preferred
  • Deep commitment to advancing inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility
  • Must be able to thrive in a multi-tasking and changing work environment and have the initiative to undertake and complete projects accurately, on deadline, and at times with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of best and current practices in museum/community education, interpretation, visitor study and audience research
  • Experience working with early learning and learning diverse communities a plus
  • Knowledge of art history, materials, processes, and techniques a plus
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language and/or multilingual a plus
  • Must pass a criminal background check and drug, nicotine, and tobacco free test.
