Employment Specialist (Job Coach)
This is a professional position that supports young adults with intellectual/developmental disabilities in finding and maintaining competitive employment in the local employment market using a customized employment model. This role requires providing job training, job coaching, developing and implementing accommodations, and providing support to the employee as well as the employer to ensure that work tasks are accurately, effectively and independently performed. This position is responsible for building a strong rapport and communication with the employee and the employer, which is vital to ensuring ongoing success and a mutually beneficial relationship at the work site.
- Hourly Rate: starting at $20.00 per hour; position is based on availability of grant funding.
- Employment Type: Part-time or full-time position (25 to 40 hours per week)
- Work Location: Miami-Dade and Broward counties, Florida
- Health Insurance available to full-time employees working > 30 hours per week.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as: Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, Education, Special Education, Recreational Therapy, etc.
- Valid State of Florida Driver’s license (Class E or higher) required at time of and for duration of employment.
- Background screening required
- Travel within Miami-Dade County and/or South Broward County with use of personal vehicle.
- Strong verbal and communication skills.
- Proficient using computer software as a work tool, including MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel.
Preferred:
- Experience working with young adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities.
- Ability to work with diverse clientele with unique abilities.
- Utilizing customized employment strategies is preferred.
- Advocacy, counseling, job coaching skills.

Essential Functions
- Prepares employees by preparing for interviews, and developing work-related problem-solving approaches.
- Provides person-centered support to meet the needs of the employee within the work environment, being mindful of the employer’s needs and mission.
- Develops specific plans to assist in achieving personal and employment goals.
- Facilitates and encourages appropriate social interactions between participants and other employees at job site.
- Models productive behavior, encourages independence, and teaches behaviors that lead to personal and professional growth.
- Develops constructive, cooperative relationships with co-workers in employment site to facilitate a successful experience for both the young adult and the employer.
- Supports positive outcomes by building positive rapport with employers and following up on placement and employment activity in an effort to maintain mutually beneficial relationships and communication.
- Effectively communicates with Foundation staff, employers, and employees.
- May work directly with behavior analyst to implement behavior plans and individual plan for employment, as needed.
- Communicates with employee via various methods including, but not limited to one-on-one meetings, surveys, group presentations, phone calls, text messages, social media contacts, or on-site coaching as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality in regards to all employees served as well as data contained in personnel records.
- Identifies and implements the use of environmental modifications, assistive technologies and strategies to accomplish work assignments as needed.
- Provides travel training and transportation coordination, as needed.
- Accurately collects, records and reviews the employment, performance, feedback and progress records to ensure standards are met. Provides periodic feedback to the Foundation and to the employee’s natural supports on progress made, and strategies and supports needed to help the employee continue to be successful.
