Description

The Denver Waldorf School (DWS) is seeking a qualified candidate to join our faculty as a full-time High School Science Teacher to begin in the 2025-26 school year. The high school science teacher will teach all life science, chemistry, and earth science classes for grades 9th through 12th. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to collaboration, objectivity, and consensus-building. Additionally, the candidate should be open, welcoming, and engaging to others as well as able to lead by active involvement in the life of the school. Knowledge of Waldorf school philosophy is preferred.

Essential Functions :

The essential responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Teach full time in life sciences and chemistry (include relevant and differentiated instruction).
  • Develop associated lesson plans, assignments, quizzes, syllabi, and other necessary documentation for all classes.
  • Provide written documentation, when requested, for ACIS and AWSNA curriculum documentation and standards.
  • Provide letter grades and narrative assessments for each student for every class.
  • Provide communication regarding grades and assignments to students and parents through Google Classroom.
  • Maintain the vertical development of the life science, chemistry, and earth science curricula throughout 9th through 12th grade, with open communication with middle school faculty.
  • Organize and maintain chemical storage, observing safety regulations.
  • Maintain and implement a chemical hygiene plan for middle and high school chemistry programs.
  • Provide general supervision of students, both during class and outside of class time.
  • Provide supervision specifically for all school day events such as all-school assemblies, field days, etc.
  • Communicate in a timely and professional manner with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Attend all required meetings, professional development, and trainings.
  • Assist with weekend and evening programs when needed.
  • Participate in and chaperone high school / service-learning trips as needed.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences in the fall and spring.
  • Maintain work space and classrooms (life science and chemistry) to provide a healthy learning environment for students.
  • Serve on one committee after the first year of teaching is completed.

Requirements

Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required; advanced degree preferred, particularly Waldorf Teacher Training.
  • Experience teaching adolescents.
  • Experience teaching science.
  • Proficiency in designing effective lessons, teaching diverse learning styles, and managing high
  • school-age students.

  • Additional math teaching experience is preferred.
  • Physical Demands :

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands, reach with arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may need to be able to lift or move up to 10 pounds. During class trips, the employee may need to hike carrying at least 20 pounds on his or her back for up to five miles, camp (sleep in a tent outside on the ground), hike over moderate terrain, dig, chop wood, and / or participate in other repetitive, physical tasks.

    Working Hours :

    The work schedule requires the employee to be at the school each day for the time necessary to accomplish instruction and responsibilities assigned thoroughly. At a minimum, full-time high school faculty are expected to be available to the school Monday through Friday during the school day beginning from 8 : 00-4 : 00 and to assist with dismissal monitoring, after-school student support, and attending after-school meetings.

    50,000.00 - $65,000.00 Yearly
