Position Overview

Key Responsibilities
Supervisory Duties:
- Directly Lead and Supervise Nursing Staff: Oversee the daily activities and performance of nursing staff working in ATS. Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to nursing personnel in the delivery of care to patients with substance use disorders.
- Staffing and Scheduling: Manage nurse staffing levels, ensuring appropriate coverage for all shifts. Participate in recruitment, orientation, and ongoing training of new nursing staff members.
- Performance Management: Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback. Address staff concerns, resolve conflicts, and collaborate with management to ensure a positive and productive work environment.
- Quality Assurance: Monitor and evaluate the quality of nursing care delivered to patients. Ensure that all nursing practices comply with hospital policies, ethical guidelines, and state/federal regulations.
- Curriculum Development: Develop and implement education and training programs for nursing staff that address the clinical aspects of addiction medicine, including evidence-based treatment modalities, harm reduction strategies, and best practices for managing patients with substance use disorders.
- In-Service Training and Workshops: Facilitate regular in-service training sessions, workshops, and continuing education opportunities to enhance the knowledge and skills of the nursing team.
- Patient Education: Provide education to patients and their families regarding addiction recovery, treatment options, medications for substance use disorder, and coping strategies for long-term recovery.
- Assess Learning Needs: Identify and assess the learning needs of nursing staff, tailoring educational programs to meet the unique needs of the inpatient addiction medicine environment.
- Direct Patient Care: Provide direct patient care, including assessments, medication administration, and monitoring of patients undergoing detoxification and treatment for substance use disorders.
- Collaborative Care: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, case managers, and ancillary staff, to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
- Clinical Leadership: Serve as a role model for best clinical practices, demonstrating high standards of care in managing patients with complex addiction-related conditions.
- Maintain Standards of Care: Ensure compliance with all regulatory bodies, including the Joint Commission, DPH/ BSAS, DEA and other relevant organizations.
- Policies and Procedures: Review and update nursing policies and procedures related to addiction treatment, ensuring they reflect current best practices and clinical guidelines.
- Evidence-Based Practice: Promote the integration of evidence-based practices in the care of patients with addiction, including advocating for research participation and knowledge translation to the nursing team.
- Outcome Tracking: Assist in the collection and analysis of data to measure the effectiveness of addiction medicine programs and nursing interventions, contributing to quality improvement initiatives.
Education & Experience:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with current, unrestricted licensure in MA.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in addiction medicine or a related field.
- Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) or Certified Addictions Nurse Specialist (CARN-S) preferred.
- Experience in nursing education and/or nurse leadership roles in inpatient or addiction treatment settings preferred.
- Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills to effectively supervise and educate staff.
- Comprehensive understanding of addiction medicine, including detoxification protocols, treatment modalities, and the challenges of co-occurring mental health disorders.
- Expertise in adult learning principles and the ability to design and implement educational programs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team setting.
- Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards of care for addiction medicine.
- Must be able to lift, move, or transfer patients with assistance as necessary.
- Ability to stand, walk, and be on feet for extended periods.
- Must be able to manage stress and maintain composure in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
- Full-time, on-site position with rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Work is performed in an inpatient healthcare setting, which may involve exposure to potentially hazardous substances or infectious diseases.
