We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate part-time Kids Cooking Enrichment Instructor to guide children through age-appropriate cooking experiences. The ideal candidate will help children from infants to 5-year-olds develop sensory awareness through food while fostering basic kitchen skills and a love for healthy eating.
Job Overview:
The Kids Cooking Enrichment Instructor will lead hands-on cooking classes for young children, with an emphasis on sensory experiences, creativity, and motor skill development. You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging cooking lessons that grow in complexity as the children age, preparing lesson plans, and ensuring the proper materials and ingredients are on hand. This position requires someone who enjoys working with children, is organized, and can create a fun, educational environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan & Teach Classes:
- Develop and implement creative, age-appropriate cooking lessons for children aged 6 months to 5 years.
- Focus on sensory experiences for infants (e.g., texture play with foods like Cheerios, fruits, and veggies) and gradually introduce more complex cooking activities as children age.
- Engage children with hands-on activities that promote motor skills, social interaction, and creative thinking.
- Tailor lessons for each age group, ensuring activities are safe, stimulating, and developmentally appropriate.
- Lesson Planning:
- Write and submit detailed monthly lesson plans, including objectives, materials needed, step-by-step instructions, and sensory activity ideas.
- Adjust lesson plans based on individual needs and progress of the children.
- Order and maintain an inventory of all cooking supplies and ingredients required for lessons
- Classro.om Environment:
- Create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children to explore food textures and cooking concepts.
- Set up the space with the necessary equipment and tools, ensuring safety standards are met.
- Parental Communication:
- Maintain communication with parents regarding children’s progress, special achievements, and any safety concerns during cooking activities.
- Safety & Cleanliness:
- Ensure that all cooking and food preparation activities are conducted with high standards of hygiene and safety.
- Ensure all food handling is compliant with health regulations for children’s safety.
Qualifications:
- Prior experience working with children, ideally in an educational or enrichment setting.
- Passion for teaching and working with young children (ages infant to 5 years).
- Basic knowledge of child development and safety practices, especially in food handling and cooking.
- Ability to write clear, engaging lesson plans that cater to various age groups.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Food handling certification or equivalent (preferred, or willing to obtain).
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and move around in a classroom setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to engage with children on their level and move around the classroom.
Schedule:
- Part-time hours 3 hours per week. Must rotate from MWF schedule and T/TH every other week.
