Overview:
The Dispatch seeks a creative, detail-oriented Visual Editor to elevate our reporting and commentary with compelling visuals. As a key member of our editorial team, you will oversee the creation, curation, and editing of visual content, ensuring it aligns with our mission and brand identity. Reporting to the Managing Editor of the company, the Visual Editor will collaborate across The Dispatch to provide graphic elements for editorial, marketing, and social media.
\n- Assist in the development and execution of a cohesive visual strategy across all platforms, including web, newsletters, and social media
- Design and edit graphics, illustrations, and infographics to complement articles and enhance reader engagement
- Curate and oversee photo selection, ensuring compliance with copyright and editorial standards
- Collaborate with writers, editors, and designers to brainstorm creative visual solutions for storytelling
- Ensure consistency in branding, style, and tone across all visual content
- Manage a visual content calendar to meet editorial and marketing deadlines
- Source and manage relationships with freelance designers, photographers, and illustrators as needed
- Other duties as assigned by editorial team and marketing team
- A background in graphic design, with an emphasis in journalism or communications, whether digital only or print in combination with digital
- Experience working on tight deadlines
- Proficiency in design tools like Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or equivalent platforms
- Familiarity with visual social media best practices
- Familiarity with WordPress content management system
- An eye for design that speaks to an audience of discerning consumers of news and commentary
- Openness to collaboration and teamwork
- Eye for the big picture, but also an enjoyment of hands-on, day-to-day operations
- Creative approach to problem-solving
