The Doggie Retreat, LLC is a dog grooming, daycare and boarding facility located in Kettering, Ohio. We are currently hiring part-time experienced dog groomers to join our team. We are seeking dog-lovers to become team-oriented members with a positive attitude.
Job Duties:
- Provide customer with excellent grooming services with a keen eye for detail
- Able to groom based on breed profile and/or client’s request
- Ensure a safe environment for the dogs in our grooming environment
- Able to bath and dry dogs when a bather not available
- A receptionist handles the office related duties including answering phones, booking appointments, checking customers in, calling customer for pick up, checking out and processing payments. Groomers are taught these duties so able to perform when a receptionist is not present
- Arrive prior to first customer of day; be available to speak with client regarding desired grooming services; make suggestions based on the condition of their dog. Later, should the groom not go as planned you will need to contract client before deviating from expected service
- Review and document grooming cards for each client
- Perform walk-in nail trims or grinds
- Maintain a clean grooming work space with daily cleaning/disinfecting after each shift and properly maintain shop equipment
- Groomer should have their own tools.
- Recognize medical situations, engaging receptionist or owners in order to ensure dog owners are properly informed
- A portfolio of previous grooms of various breeds and styles would be helpful to review during interview, and there is the possibility of requiring a test groom
Education and Experience:
- High School graduate or equivalent
- 2 years’ experience as a Dog Groomer
- Knowledge and skill to handle difficult dogs
- Hand scissoring a plus
Other Qualifications:
- Maintain a professional and positive attitude and demeanor
- Must be comfortable around multiple dogs of all sizes, temperaments and ages, and physically able to handle these dogs; interacting in a calm, non-threatening manner
- Good oral communication skills, treating customers and co-workers in a professional courteous manner with respect
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment
- Other valuable traits -- able to follow instructions, adapt to environment, be dependable, punctual, flexible and have reliable transportation
- Must be able to work under conditions that require standing, walking, bending, reaching, pulling, pushing and lifting in both dry and wet conditions.
Scheduling:
- Grooming occurs Monday through Saturday
- Closed Sundays and Holidays
- Number of days can vary between two to three days each week
- Daily hours of work are flexible
