Overview: The Door is an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly eleven thousand New York City youth each year. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.
Summary: The Social Workers for Runaway and Homeless Youth (RHY) services will provide direct crisis intervention and short-term counseling for young people identified through the RHY drop-in center, membership, and counseling department. This position will serve as a consultant for Administration for Children’s Services calls and mental health needs identified within the RHY department. Ongoing training and professional supervision are provided.
Responsibilities:
- Asses young people accessing the Manhattan drop-in center who are in crisis to provide support, information, and referrals.
- Perform abuse/neglect screenings and Administration of Children’s Services mandated reporting duties as needed.
- Complete suicide and homicide risk assessments with appropriate follow-up in collaboration with Clinical Supervisor.
- Meet with Door members who are exhibiting symptoms of serious mental illness and coordinate treatment plans with various service providers and/or internal departments.
- Provide short-term, supportive counseling for Door members accessing the RHY drop-in.
- Document all crisis and clinical work including any safety plans and referrals in the online platform.
- Develop and facilitate therapeutic and support groups for members around relevant topics such as independent living and mental wellness.
- Develop linkages with outside organizations and maintain up-to-date referral resources within the five boroughs.
- Participate in agency-wide and department staff meetings monthly, as well as all scheduled team meetings.
- Support in providing drop-in services and basic needs services.
- Complete any additional responsibilities and functions as assigned by Clinical Supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in related field with relevant professional experience.
- LMSW, LCSW, LMFC, or LMHC required.
- Demonstrated ability to engage hard-to-reach populations.
- Familiarity and experience with trauma-informed approaches to service coordination and delivery.
- Experience and/or knowledge working with street-involved youth.
- Knowledgeable of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people.
- Understanding of adolescent development, assessment, counseling, and/or crisis management.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
- Proficiency in Spanish, French, Arabic, or Mandarin strongly preferred.
- Ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Work Schedule: Monday through Wednesday / Saturday through Sunday 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Salary: $60,000 - $62,000 annually
