NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Education Services Coordinator for Volunteer and Public Programs will support the Museum’s mission by developing, implementing, and managing volunteer programs and public education initiatives. This role will foster community engagement through creative, inclusive programming while ensuring volunteers are well-supported and aligned with the Museum’s goals.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Volunteer Programs:
- Assist in the development and updating of volunteer guidelines and training materials.
- Schedule and oversee volunteer activities, ensuring adequate coverage for events and programs.
- Provide ongoing support, mentorship, and recognition for volunteers.
- Assist in evaluating volunteer performance and program effectiveness, identify areas for improvement and bring them to the attention of the Manager.
Public Programs:
- Assist in planning and executing educational programs, workshops, and events for diverse audiences, including families, schools, and community groups.
- Act as primary liaison to external customers, coordinate reservations and registration for all public and volunteer education initiatives, including adult tours, lectures, scout programming, featured/drop-in programming, River City History Tours, and winter and summer camps.
- Collaborate with curators, educators, and other departments to design programs that align with the Museum’s exhibits and mission.
- Assist in logistics, scheduling, budgeting, and securing materials for public programs.
- Build partnerships with local organizations, schools, and community groups to expand program outreach.
- Assess program success through participant feedback and data analysis.
- Assist in maintenance, organization, and refreshing of education spaces, props, and supply storage areas to ensure they are clean, accessible, and effective.
- Provide support for education components for signature events.
Facilitation and Visitor Engagement:
- Serve as an on-call facilitator for tours, workshops, and programs when necessary.
- Address visitor concerns and resolve issues promptly in collaboration with the Manager.
Administrative:
- Maintain records of volunteer hours, training, and program participation.
- Prepare reports on volunteer hours, training, and program participation.
- Assist in developing marketing materials to promote programs and recruit volunteers.
- Support grant writing and fundraising efforts for education and public programming.
- Responsible for tracking and implementation of department and program budgets as approved by the Director of Education.
- Work closely with Business Manager and use museum software to handle payment, processing, and customer invoicing.
- All other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in education, museum studies, or related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in education, volunteer management, or museum programming.
- Strong organizational skills and project management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities, with a focus on collaboration and relationship building.
- Creative problem-solving skills and a passion for lifelong learning.
- Knowledge of Museum education best practices and principles.
- Knowledge of Altru non-profit ticketing software is preferred.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Full-time, exempt position scheduled to work Monday through Friday and during select special events.
- Routine periods of sitting, standing, and walking are required.
