Senior Scientist Chemist
Houston, TX
Our client, a global manufacturer of nutraceuticals, is hiring a Senior Scientist Chemist responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, developing and overseeing research projects, participating in process and product development, helping with process troubleshooting as well as developing and transferring of new analytical methods.
Responsibilities:
• Organize daily workload in Technology & Development Lab
• Conduct experiments to investigate new processes or techniques or potential process improvements to support manufacturing operations such as: Classical ‘wet chemistry’ techniques (extractions, titrations, precipitation reactions etc.) Chromatography (IEX, Affinity, hydrophobic etc.) Distillation / evaporation. Adsorption / desorption
• Conduct analysis (HPLC, GC, ICP, titration) on such experiments to identify outcomes
• Perform scale-up and feasibility studies
• Develop, transfer and validate new analytical methods
• Ensure that the laboratory and equipment is maintained and operated according to the relevant safety and quality standards in place. Cleaning of lab, ordering of chemicals and consumables. Write, review and update standard operating procedures and department policies. Maintain equipment, perform verification/calibration of equipment. Perform laboratory instrument and analytical method troubleshooting
• Propose new or innovative methods for using technology to resolve problems
• Support other teams to conceptualize, design, plan and implement innovative technology that enable to improve manufacturing processes
• Work cross-functionally with other departments: engineering, innovation, production, QC and QA
Requirements:
• Graduate degree, such as master’s degree or PhD in chemistry, science or related fields
• Several years of working experience in development lab or R&D lab
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on laboratory experience in a food, pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing environment, with a strong focus on method development, formulation, or process optimization.
• Proven record of independently achieved accomplishments as demonstrated by: products/process/technological innovation and or/improvement
• Previous experience in krill oil or fish oil manufacturing/development will be a plus
• Experience with analytical tools such as HPLC, GC, ICP and titrations
• Experience with data analysis
• Ability to self-manage and devise work programs in isolation
• Strong organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal and collaboration skills, ability to prioritize tasks
• Good verbal and written communications skills in English
• Ability to travel occasionally and work flexible hours as needed
