THE ROLE:
The Education Cooperative (TEC) is hiring a full-time Occupational Therapist to join our team at TEC Campus & TEC Academy.
The role of the Occupational Therapist is to provide direct, indirect and consultation services to assist with implementing students’ educational goals and objectives as described in their individualized educational plans (IEPs). Occupational Therapy services are delivered within the context of an integrated related services approach whenever possible or appropriate. Although Occupational Therapists work under the general direction of the Program Director, daily operational duties are a team approach with the Occupational Therapist planning, prioritizing and implementing work, in accordance with standard practices and previous training.
OUR ORGANIZATION:
The Education Cooperative (TEC) is an educational collaborative and 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in E. Walpole, MA that develops and coordinates educational and organizational programs to meet the needs of our 19 member communities and their students in a way that complements and strengthens their school programs and expands opportunities for their students, educators and communities in the most cost effective manner.
The TEC Campus School (TCS), one of three DESE approved public special education day schools
within TEC, is designed for students with multiple disabilities that necessitate a small,
structured educational and therapeutic setting to support a wide range of learning, medical, and
behavioral needs.
At TCS, experienced, licensed special educators, related service providers, and
nurses along with the support of teaching assistants, provide students with curriculum in the
areas of functional academics, communication, motor, vocational, social, recreational, and daily
living skills. Working as a team utilizing an integrated related services approach, the TEC Campus
staff keep students’ therapeutic, sensory, behavioral, and medical needs at the forefront so that
students can access their learning, achieve the goals on their IEPs, and develop the skills that will help them be as successful, healthy, happy, and independent as possible
TEC Academy is a DESE approved public day school that is designed for students in Grades K-2 and 6-12 with academic, emotional and/or behavioral challenges that necessitate a small, structured educational setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES
-Interact and work with students, ages three to twenty-two years, both individually and in small groups;
-Provide occupational therapy services with a focus to allow students to access their educational environment and make progress;
-Support students in multiple settings including classroom, therapy areas, ADLs, pool, playground, gym, and community;
-Communication skills verbal and written to coordinate with doctors, insurance companies, vendors, technicians, and families;
-Complete IEP paperwork and evaluations pertaining to occupational therapy services;
-Complete paperwork for Medicaid billing;
-Complete Letters of Medical Necessity when necessary;
-Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and utmost confidentiality regarding information pertaining to students;
-Establish an effective work relationship with classroom teachers, other specialists, administration, and parents;
-Exhibit promptness and dependability in completing all assigned duties in accordance with TEC Personnel Policies;
-Maintains consistent attendance from the start of the day to the end of the day;
-Travel between program classrooms when necessary.
-Such additional duties as may be from time to time assigned by the classroom teacher, Program Director, or Director of Student Services;
