Overview
Under the direction of the Controller, the Billing Liaison is responsible for overseeing billing, collection, and appeals activities performed by the revenue cycle management team, well as generating daily visit charges, monthly per diem and monthly room and board charges in preparation for monthly invoicing. The position requires continuous collaboration and communication with both external and internal key stakeholders and ensures that claim and clearinghouse errors are resolved timely.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Salary: $30.00-$34.00 per hour. Subject to experience and qualifications.
Work Location: Escondido, CA. This is an onsite position
Responsibilities
Serve as primary contact to the revenue cycle management team.
Maintain positive relationships and work effectively with all levels of staff and vendors.
Actively participate in regular meetings with the revenue cycle management team. Lead discussion topics pertaining to status of aged accounts, status of appeals, and any current and ongoing discrepancies in billing and postings.
Liaison with appropriate personnel, inform them of billing-related matters and work to resolve issues.
Work closely with revenue cycle management team and appropriate personnel to ensure billing workflow processes are understood and followed.
Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing myUnity functions applicable to role, such as daily charge posting, month-end billing process, Room & Board setup, and applicable financial reporting.
Possess working knowledge of myUnity setup functions applicable to role, such as reimbursement rules, payers and plans, and products and services.
Troubleshoot and resolve claim and clearinghouse errors, working and collaborating with other departments as needed.
Review generated visit, per diem and recurring charge rates to ensure AR, revenue and discount amounts are accurate. Communicate any irregularities.
Oversee revenue cycle management billing processes to facilitate timely receipt of payment from insurance providers and individual payors.
Prepare account write-off (bad debt) packages for executive review and approval.
Prepare and mail paper NOEs when necessary.
Provide NOTR report to revenue cycle management team.
Process daily deposit log and upload to SFTP portal for revenue cycle management team.
When requested, call insurance contacts and use insurance portals to gather additional information for claim payment and claim processing issues.
Monitor the appeals and grievance letters for denial reconsideration for all claims.
Requires professional communication with revenue cycle management team, insurance companies, coworkers, facility registration personnel, physicians’ offices, and patients.
Acts as a resource for both staff and patient/families as needed.
Assists in maintaining patient information and data in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
Qualifications
Comprehensive understanding of Medicare, Medi-Cal and commercial federal and state laws, rule and regulations regarding billing and collections.
Has an extensive knowledge of billing requirements mandated by payers and / or governmental regulations.
Experience in a medical or hospice office environment required with 3-5 years medical or hospice billing experience preferred.
Experience serving as a team point of escalation on day-to-day team questions and questions from Access Center on insurance questions.
Strong skills in Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook. Netsmart experience preferred.
Current Driver’s License and proof of auto insurance.
Requires maturity and experience to interface with all levels of management and personnel.
Ability to use judgment to prioritize tasks, problem solve, and accomplish tasks.
