Description : About the Role

This role demands a kinetic mind with the ability to innovate, imagine and use their learned professional expertise to maintain and enhance our points of attraction. This role will be responsible for the drafting and / or review of schematics to ensure proper installation and maintenance of hardware, software, technology and fabrication of structures and kiosks within the museum exhibits. This position will require a considerable understanding of the use of RFID and electronics. The ideal candidate may possess a mechanical or electrical engineering license / degree or equivalent experience. Ability to communicate in English and Spanish a plus.

Essential Functions

  • Leads daily exhibit inspections to assess safety, functionality, and cleanliness.
  • Conducts daily, weekly, monthly and other routine preventative maintenance.
  • Improves the design and function of exhibits and gallery spaces.
  • Maintains workshop and warehouse cleanliness, organization, and safety.
  • Adhere to and refine schedule for preventative maintenance of La Nube workshop, warehouse, equipment, exhibits, and vehicles.
  • Work a minimum 40-hour work week.
  • Conduct research on existing fabricated structures and techniques.
  • Comply and adhere to changing industry standards.
  • Work alongside the V.P. of Facilities & Exhibits to ensure budgetary reports are forecasted, reviewed and maintained.
  • Assist in the ongoing supervision of exhibits and workshop related expenses.
  • Address work order requests and make accommodations for all spaces and exhibits, including special events and programs.
  • Oversee the coordination of transportation of materials and equipment, as necessary.
  • Assist in technical design, engineering, fabrication and refurbishment of galleries and exhibits as guided by the V.P. of Exhibits & Facilities.
  • Suggest modifications to fixtures, fabricated structures, programs, hardware and software, as needed.
  • Attend all necessary meetings both departmentally and organizationally, as applicable.
  • Schedule and availability shall reflect the organization as a 7-day week operation.
  • Periodically required to work outside of standard working hours.
  • May be required to act in an on-call or standby status in a rotational pattern with other team members.
  • Actively practice OSHA and La Nube’s health and safety protocols.
  • Participate in cross-training with building maintenance team.
  • Develop electrical and mechanical skills by completing tasks onsite.
  • Provide backup assistance to other team members to ensure continuity of services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Have experience in electronics, fabrication and maintenance.

Have skills including hardware / software troubleshooting, electronics / electrical, and plastic fabrication.

Have extreme attention to detail and commitment to visual aesthetics.

Can utilize excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple tasks accurately and effectively.

Have basic proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 products.

Have experience managing budgets, projects.

Have experience working with outside vendors / contractors and fabrication firms.

Have strong problem-solving skills.

Can remain calm and respectful in stressful or challenging situations.

Have a Valid Class “C” Texas or other state Driver’s license or a willingness to get one within 12 months.

Have reliable transportation.

Are working towards an engineering degree, within twelve (12) months from graduation and / or licensure.

Can communicate at a proficient level both verbally and in writing in the English language.

Physical Demands / Occupational Hazards

This position is highly active. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to :

Observe and react to the needs of guests, team members, volunteers, and community partners.

Move throughout the STEAM Center.

Manipulate, lift and / or move materials weighing up to 80 pounds.

Frequent bending / stooping, kneeling, reaching, and laying down on hard surfaces.

Occasional need to move and utilize single or two-person lifts and forklifts.

Communicate and respond to safety hazards.

Occasional work in outdoor elements (may consist of harsh heat or cold).

Occasional walking on uneven surfaces.

Occasional need to work over 6 feet high; climb ladders; use scissor lifts, etc.

Potential exposure to low voltage electricity.

Occasional exposure to leaning edges and glass barriers.

Occasional need to enter confined spaces.

Occasional work in wet environments, including in water exhibit(s).
