Description

Position Overview:

The Rotating Equipment, Vibration, Dynamics (REVD) Senior Mechanical Field Engineer candidate is a highly motivated multidisciplinary engineer with a mechanical background who has interest in developing expertise in the areas of fixed equipment and rotating machinery. They execute consulting and development projects independently and/or under the direction of senior level engineers. Additional responsibilities include assisting with proposal development, handling client interactions, and performing research and ASME/API code development. The position requires a very strong fundamental engineering background in areas of stress analysis, strength-of-materials, and vibration analysis. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking initiative to tackle open-ended problems while continuously adapting to new challenges.

This position is estimated to travel over 50% of the time.  However, it could be more based on high demand for our services.

The likely locations that you will be traveling to are:

  • Kenai, Alaska
  • St. Paul, Minnesota
  • Anacortes, Washington

Qualifications


Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent of work experience in the below relevant areas.

Current P.E. or Canadian P. Eng. license or able to obtain within 1-2 year.

Eligible to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) card upon initial employment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Demonstrates and applies knowledge of fundamental engineering principals and advanced problem solving in the areas of stress analysis, strength-of-materials, and vibration analysis.
  • Works efficiently and effectively both independently and as a member of multi-disciplinary teams to solve problems related to rotating equipment, piping, pressure vessels, and fired heaters.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform:
    • Piping Vibration Analysis (Natural Frequency Assessments, Dynamic Analysis)
    • Vibration Testing and Data Analysis (Operating Deflection Shape Analysis, Experimental Modal Analysis)
    • Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
    • Piping Stress Analysis (B31 Compliance Assessments, Dynamic Assessments)
    • ASME Section VIII, Division 1 and 2, and B31 Series Design Calculations.
    • Computational Pulsation Analysis (API 618 Design Approach 3 experience a plus).
    • Calculations requiring fundamental competencies in Heat-transfer and Fluids Engineering.
  • Demonstrates the ability to perform or willingness to develop the required skill-sets under the guidance of rotating equipment subject matter experts to execute consulting services such as:
    • Troubleshooting and optimization of pump and compressor performance issues
    • Rotating equipment and machinery diagnostics including vibration data collection and analysis (Transient Vibration Data Collection and Analysis, Fault Detection Using Vibration Data).
    • Capital projects support (equipment specification, shop inspection, performance testing, installation, startup and commissioning) including shop inspections, materials selection, etc.)
  • With sufficient training and under the guidance of Rotating Equipment Subject Matter Experts, assist with the development of Best Practices and Standards for Rotating Equipment.
  • Internship and/or Co-Op Experience in the following areas a plus:
    • Vibration and/or Signal Analysis
    • Finite Element Analysis
    • Piping Stress Analysis
    • Maintenance or Reliability Engineering
    • Computational Fluid Dynamics including Fluid-Structure Interaction
    • Computational Pulsation Analysis
  • Ability to provide project management, analytical, and technical review support to engineering team members on consulting projects.
  • Demonstrates initiative to support expedited client requests and emergency/rush projects.
  • In addition to executing highly technical engineering projects behind the desk, the ideal candidate will have a desire to perform on-site data collection and vibration testing at client sites (refineries or petrochemical facilities). Onsite projects may require over 50% travel.

Compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case and will impact where actual compensation may fall within the stated wage range. The wage range listed for this role takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions including skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled.
