Qualifications

The Environmental Health & Safety Leader has global responsibility and accountability for The Estee Lauder Companies Environmental Health and Safety programs as well as corporate Citizenship and Sustainability (C&S) goals as applicable for the areas it manages. This position has responsibility for the development of global strategies aligning with business strategies and implementation of these strategies for all Brands, Regions and Functions ensuring a safe workplace for all employees, protecting the environment in which we operate and reducing risk to the Company and striving for differentiation to enhance brand equity through our green initiatives. This position has accountability to ensure regulatory compliance and internal best practice requirements globally and leads the team responsible for the administration and implementation of EHS Policies, EHS Compliance, EHS Risk Management and EHS programs.

Minimum Education level: Bachelors degree in health science, safety, engineering, environmental engineering or elated field. Master’s s degree preferred

Minimum Years of Experience: 15 – 20

% Travel Time: 25%

Licenses or Certifications: CIH, CSP or other equivalent EHS licenses preferred/not required.

  • Ability to assess, view and develop a clear vision and strategy that touches all areas of the business. This incorporates Company employees in factories, DCs, R&D, office, free-standing stores, retail counters, field employees, etc.Ability to manage and execute tasks toward its accomplishment.
  • Strong leadership, talent management, change execution, and financial management skills. Readily and actively contributes to the success of the global team and the Company’s C&S goals which include EHS but also sustainability.
  • Ability to simultaneously balance and adjust to multiple changing priorities and make decisions with speed and accuracy.
  • Strong influencing skills to align and implement global strategy across brands, regions and functions.
  • Must be capable of multi-level communication up to and including the executive leadership team “ELT” and the Chairman.
  • Must have direct experience in leading multiple geographically dispersed sites, matrixed functions or operations within the clear and recognizable understanding of the processes, equipment and methods associated with manufacturing.
  • Exercises vision and sound judgment at both global and local levels. Must be willing to tackle tough issues with tact and diplomacy in a timely fashion.
  • Demonstrated experience interpreting and applying regulatory frameworks at local/state/provincial/federal level globally such OSHA, EPA, Department of Health, Fire Protection, Health & Safety Executive, Ministry of Labour & Environment, SUVA, DOT, etc.
  • Ability to manage in a matrix and a global team
  • Must have sound knowledge of global environmental, health and safety regulatory and statutory requirements. This knowledge would include current rules/regulations as well as pending legislation.
  • Ability to act as change agent through interactions with others

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • This Position is responsible for developing and leading the global EHS strategy and executing the Company’s C&S strategy. The lead sets policy direction and operational guidance which enables a culture of workforce behaviors directed towards safety, industrial wellness and health, incident and accident prevention, regulatory compliance, environmental management and performance outcomes that engage the connection of the workforce to the Company and its culture.
  • The Global EH&S Leader provides expertise and leadership that engages the EH&S team and operational leaders in driving the culture of safety, compliance and sustainability throughout the organization. A culture that keeps our employee safe, protects the loss exposure of the Company, and is focused on compliance as a core foundational element with applicable government regulations and internal standards and values.
  • The Lead is responsible for ensure regulatory conformance with EHS regulations across the entire business.
  • The Global EH&S Leader leads a team of experienced and dedicated EHS professionals with responsibility for talent development and mentoring related to technical expertise and leadership capability.
  • The Lead also directs the activities of hundreds of global staff involved in global programs such as the BBS program.
  • This position partners closely and works collaboratively with the corporate GCCS leader and is responsible for driving Sustainability practice and reporting across brands/regions/functions by developing and implementing strategies consistent with and furthering sustainability goals and initiatives. This includes examples such as collecting the corporation’s greenhouse gas data for the Company including affiliate globally, all accident data for every ELC employee,
  • Responsible for maintaining and driving the success of key performance metrics for all safety and environmental areas and reporting them up to the global scorecard.
  • The Lead manages the corporate (externally audited) certificate for the ISO 14001 management system covering all factories.
  • The position works closely with the Risk Management department and manages the abatement of corporate risks due to gaps in Fire Protection, Life Safety and Human Element requirements via programmatic work and capital projects. The position also oversees several of the critical corporate risks identified by the Enterprise Risk Management system.
  • The Global EH&S Leader manages the safety and environmental training programs to comply with regulatory requirements.
  • The Global EH&S Leader is the lead for two Issues Working Groups areas under the Crisis Leadership Team reporting to the chair
  • Responsible for managing a global budget of $25 Million
  • Responsible for managing a global team of 50 , including 4-6 direct reports at the ED or above level and an additional 600 global employees dedicated to Behavior-based Safety Programs “BBS”.
