Job Description:
We are seeking a Sr. Red Hat Linux Administrator consultant to manage and optimize the AOC’s Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environments. The resource will be responsible for ensuring system stability, security, and performance while supporting a range of enterprise applications. This role requires advanced expertise in Linux administration, automation, troubleshooting, and security best practices.
Responsibilities:
- Installing, configuring, and maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) servers across development, testing, and production environments.
- Performing system upgrades, patch management, and security hardening to ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Monitoring system performance and troubleshooting issues to minimize downtime and optimize efficiency.
- Implementing automation scripts using Ansible, Bash, or Python to streamline system administration tasks.
- Configuring and maintaining Red Hat Satellite, Identity Management (IdM), and other Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) ecosystem tools.
- Collaborating with security teams to ensure systems are protected against vulnerabilities and comply with security policies.
- Maintaining and optimizing storage, backup, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Supporting application teams by providing guidance on best practices for Linux-based deployments.
- Maintaining documentation for system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Participating in on-call support and incident resolution activities as required.
- Setting up Network File Server (NFS) and mount points.
- Configuring Chron jobs for both systems and applications.
Required Experience:
- 15 years of experience in the Information Technology (IT) field
- 10 years of experience in Red Hat system administration including configuration and tuning
- 10 years of experience administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems
Preferred Experience:
Experience with:
(1) Working in a complex networked system environment with strong networking.
(2) Administering Unix (AIX) IBM pSeries systems.
(3) Administering systems including, but not limited to, the applications below:
- Oracle WebLogic Servers
- Oracle Database Servers
- Progress 4GL/Database Servers/OpenEdge
- Apache Web Servers
- vSphere hosted RHEL Servers.
- Rubrik backup systems.
- Oracle Database backups.
- PeopleSoft
- Mobius
- Elastic Search
- Oracle OBI
- CVS (Concurrent Version System)
- Red Hat performance tuning.
- Load balancing, partitioning, back-up/recovery, and disaster recovery.
- Working in an environment that requires 24/7 system availability.

Ability to:

(6) Troubleshoot at the Operating System (OS), database, and application levels.
Knowledge of:
(1) Red Hat administration, including configuration and tuning.
Required Education and Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree, or postgraduate degree, in engineering, computer science, or related field (as determined by the AOC).
- Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator. Certification must be issued by Red Hat (include valid certification number).
Interview Process:
The shortlisted resource will be required to complete a multi-part interview, including the following:
1. The anticipated duration of the interview is one (1) hour.
a. The client shall conduct the interview in-person at the 187 Harry S. Truman Parkway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
Resource(s) Degree and/or Certificate(s): Resource shall submit a copy of any degree and/or certificate for each proposed resource as required or preferred skills.
If a certification includes a verification number (e.g., Cisco, Palo Alto), the resource shall ensure to submit the certificate includes the verification number.
- Offeror shall provide evidence of bachelor’s degree, or postgraduate degree, in engineering, computer science, or related field (as determined by the client).
- The Resource shall provide a copy his/her Red Hat Certified Systems Administrator certification.
