General Description
Responsible for the health and physical education learning activities for all students attending The Faison Center. This includes generating lesson plans for all classes, incorporating the VA Standards of Learning, and individualizing and adapting curriculum to ensure student growth. Serves as the lead teacher for all related lesson plan implementation, while also directing teacher assistants who regularly work with those students to ensure effective implementation of the daily lesson plan. Responsible for obtaining and maintaining all equipment necessary to implement the health and physical education curriculum, as well as overseeing scheduled use of the gymnasium during school hours.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in related subject area, required.
· Master’s degree in education, preferred.
· Must possess (or be eligible to obtain within 90 days of hire) a Virginia teaching license in either Special Education K-12 (either "Adapted Curriculum" or "General Curriculum" are acceptable) or Health & Physical Education PreK-12. Once obtained, must maintain an appropriate license to remain in position.
· Relevant experience working with special populations including autism and intellectual disability.
· Experience providing adapted PE instruction.
· Experience managing classrooms for students whose communication skills range from early/emerging to an age-appropriate conversational level.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILILITES
· Knowledge of educational reports including IEP/IIP’s, Interim Reports, Progress Reports and Report Cards.
· Knowledge of health, athletics and/or fitness curriculum.
· Knowledge of special education curriculum and assessments.
· Knowledgeable in data collection.
· Ability to interpret and utilize data to generate reports.
· Ability to understand and utilize external information to update reports.
· Ability to interact with students, parents and guests with patience and respect.
· Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports in an accurate and complete manner.
· Ability to manage projects, multiple tasks and develop solutions to problems with limited supervision.
· Ability to interact with co-workers, volunteers, and the public in a positive, professional manner.
· Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
· Ability to operate and generally maintain all office equipment, including but not limited to the copier.
· Proficiency with Windows & Microsoft Office 365, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other web-based software.
