What are the responsibilities and job description for the Early Childhood Classroom Assessor position at The Family Connection of St. Joseph County, Inc.?
The Family Connection of St. Joseph County, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that has been involved in improving quality in early childhood classrooms throughout St. Joseph County for almost 25 years, is looking for individuals to do a variety of classroom quality assessments in infant/toddler and/or preschool classrooms.
Assessors work with a local team in conducting assessments with the goal of helping teachers improve their teaching and the children’s learning environment.
Assessments include the Early Learning and Language Classroom Observation (ELLCO), HighScope’s Program Quality Assessment (PQA) for preschool, program and infant/toddler classes, and the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) for infant, toddler, and preschool (PreK).
Assessors would:
- Receive training in the assessments they will be conducting
- Make appointments with programs
- Conduct assessments in classrooms
- Score assessments
- Provide a brief written report
- Obtain/maintain assessor reliability where applicable
Minimum Qualifications:
- BA in Early Childhood or Elementary Education or BA with early childhood coursework.
- Teaching experience in early childhood and/or elementary.
- Knowledge of HighScope curriculum preferred for preschool assessors.
- Strong writing skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Dependability is extremely important.
- Have own reliable transportation.
The work is part-time with flexible scheduling. Assessors are contracted workers and are paid a flat rate for each assessment as well as for training time.
