Core faculty members in the online site of the Master of Science Degree in MFT are engaged in a variety of teaching and supervisory activities related to the program’s coursework and internship experiences. In addition to teaching responsibilities, Core Faculty may be assigned direct Supervision work, and/or serve as lead faculty for courses. They will also engage in other core faculty responsibilities such as admissions, advising, committee work, scholarship, immersion events, graduation, service, and other areas of leadership.
ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Core faculty responsibilities:
• Teaches courses in the curriculum as determined by the Assistant Director of the online branch.
• Provides group supervision as part of the internship course, as assigned
• Performs other duties as assigned related to clinical training for assigned student caseloads
• Provides Capstone mentorship and evaluation, as assigned
• Participates in student admissions’ procedures, including open houses and interviews with applicants
• Provides program evaluation as requested
• Participates as required in the Immersion experiences
• Participates and/or leads program orientation activities
• Participates in graduation ceremonies
• Participates in core faculty, teaching faculty, and supervisor meetings
• Participates in various program committees related to accreditation and program enrichment
• Participates in student advising and remediation
• Other program-related tasks as assigned
Professional scholarship and leadership
• Participates in state and national leadership activities related to the advancement of the field of systemic family therapy and the profession of MFT
• Conducts scholarly activities based on interests
• Engages in academic scholarship (publications, presentations, grants, etc.)
• Writes program communication, marketing material, and blogs as requested
Program enrichment
• Demonstrates DEI and multicultural proficiencies
• Holds strong MFT identity
• Committed to the program’s integrative, systemic approach
• Has the capacity to engage with numerous stakeholders using strong interpersonal skills
• Supports students in career development
Requirements
SUMMARY OF QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Skills:
• Strong MFT identity as evidenced by LMFT licensure, professional affiliations, scholarship, and AAMFT- Approved Supervisor status or eligibility
• Skilled at connecting and building rapport with a diverse range of students, staff, and faculty
• Evidence of ability to teach a broad range of MFT courses
• Experience with online teaching
• Excellent organizational skills
• Creativity, innovation, and ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
• Ability to adapt to new and rapidly changing situations
• Strong time management and problem-solving skills
• Ability to successfully resolve issues from identification through resolution
• Effectively work with teaching and learning technology, multiple databases and student platforms
• Excellent active listening and interpersonal skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Cultural sensitivity and strong interest in DEI issues
• Knowledgeable of (or strong willingness to learn) the integrative systemic therapy perspective
Minimum Hiring Specifications:
• Earned doctorate in MFT from a COAMFTE-accredited program and AAMFT-Approved Supervisor OR an earned master’s in MFT from a COAMFTE-accredited program, LMFT, and a strong track record in teaching, clinical work, training, and supervision
• Experience teaching graduate-level courses in the areas of family therapy or other systemically oriented courses
• Experience supervising graduate students in clinical settings, who may work with diverse clients
• Eligibility to hold rank of Clinical Assistant Professor at Northwestern University
• Licensed or eligible for clinical licensure in home state
