Position Summary: Provides case management and crisis intervention to victims of domestic violence; provides constructive intervention activities that reinforce healthy coping skills; develops safety and service plans to address crisis needs and planning for long term stability. Provide survivor-centered advocacy and support survivors in their efforts to safely retain their housing and gain stability. Assists survivors and advocate son their behalf to overcome common barriers to stability such as negative rental history, unemployment, and lack of resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitates psychoeducation groups for victims of domestic violence.
- Provides on-going case management and housing related assistance to victims of domestic violence who are at risk of becoming homeless;
- Assists with identifying and securing housing and meet the needs of clients who may be at risk of becoming homeless
- Maintains up to date information and knowledge of the available community resources for the referral process
- Conducts intakes and assessments; provides crisis intervention services as needed.
- Works as a member of a team to insure appropriate case management for assigned case load.
- Maintains accurate and confidential records on each client for assigned case load, (progress notes, reports, and other required forms).
- Represents The Family Place and participates in community education as requested.
- Participates in training programs, seminars and workshops to update professional knowledge.
- Meets regularly with supervisor as arranged.
- Provides reports and/or accurate statistical information in a timely manner.
- Maintains work schedule as required by program needs with adequate flexibility.
- Routinely maintains client utilization rate of 50% or above.
Other Duties:
- Attends agency staff meetings.
- Attend agency trainings related to domestic violence.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Requirements: Masters Degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Related Human Services field. One to two years experience in crisis intervention and/or domestic violence issues preferred. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required. Or Bachelors Degree and at least four (4) years of case management experience.
Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas Drivers License
Knowledge and Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of domestic violence, child abuse, cultural diversity and diverse socioeconomic levels of clients
- Knowledge of MS Office, including Word and Outlook
- Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solutions for clients
- Ability to listen to clients, verbally to establish trust and safety
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Ability to relate with clients through understanding, respect and skilled communication.
- Ability to follow all safety and precautionary rules and measures.
- Ability to work flexible shifts and in the evening two nights.
- Ability to perform work efficiently and effectively under stressful situations.
- Ability to prioritize and self motivate to accomplish job goals.
Mental and Physical Abilities: Ability to perform physical task such as stooping, reaching, bending, climbing to interact with clients including children with the ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
Working Conditions: Duties are usually performed seated with occasional periods of standing or walking. Work may be performed, but is not limited to an office environment. Some local travel required to complete housing inspections and attend community meetings.
Work Location: Work must be performed in the office due to client confidentiality.
