Program Overview: The Comprehensive Family Support Program provides support to parents who may be experiencing social, emotional, physical and mental health events that interfere with their ability to parent their children.
Job Description
Position Summary: The primary role of the Family Support Specialist is to develop strong relationships with families to provide service coordination, support, and training to assist families in meeting the needs of their children and enhancing the parents’ role as the primary influence on their child’s education and development.
Family Support Specialist Responsibilities:
- The Family Support Specialist will be responsible for providing routine home visits, primarily occurring within the family’s home; each home visit should last for at least one hour
- Develop a trusting relationship with families by providing strength-based, family-centered interventions that assist in enhancing the parent-child relationship, build upon parenting skills and improve the family support system
- Assist families in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishing those goals
- Complete routine screenings and provide referrals as needed to support family needs
- Use evidence-based curriculum and practices to assess the effectiveness with the target population
- Complete documentation and weekly notes for each family served; notes must be completed by the end of the week
- Maintain client confidentiality
- Maintain an up-to-date calendar of appointments
- Participate in any required training for ongoing professional development
- Participate in all required cross-training assigned by the Family Resource Center to ensure staffing needs are being met in all programs
- Attend staff meetings as scheduled
- Attend weekly reflective supervision with supervisor
- Adhere to Family Resource Center policies and procedures as set by the Board of Directors
Skills:
- Experience in working with or providing services to children and their families that embrace the concepts of family-centered and strength-based service provision
- Experience and willingness to work with the culturally diverse populations present among the site’s target population
- Have a working knowledge of computers and computer programs that enhance service delivery
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a wide range of individuals, including program participants, representatives of funders, agency staff, community service providers, and the general public, to promote program services effectively
