About The Role:

Kidz Korner is a recreational after-school program for students with autism and other developmental disabilities.  The program provides opportunities for social interaction,  group activities, games, and the development of new hobbies. The Direct Support Professional - After School assists the on-site Program Lead to ensure a fun, safe, and enriching experience for Kidz Korner’s participants.

For the school year, this position includes the opportunity to work in the Kidz Korner the after school program, which operates Monday – Thursday at Toms River Intermediate from 2:30 - 5:30pm. This position will work on a on-call basis once or twice a month with additional days when  needed. 

Because it is an on-call role, this is a great opportunity for anyone searching for part-time work without the commitment of a set schedule.  

This role is ideal for: retired educators; retired paraprofessionals; college students pursuing careers in special education.  

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensure that all work is carried out in a manner that is both respectful and empowering to families and individuals with developmental disabilities.
• Assists the Program Leader with care and supervision of children attending the after-school program.
• Participates in the organizations wide array of indoor and outdoor activities including arts, crafts, games, music, dance and educational projects, and group activities.
• Ensures the health and safety of all program participants.
• Provides input at staff meetings and as needed discussing participant wellbeing and program quality.
• Provide updates in behaviors to Program Leads and participants parents as needed.
• Based on need, Aides may be required to travel to other after-school program locations to fill in if short staffed.
• Maintains CPR/First Aid certification (every two years) and Handle with Care annually, along with other job requirements as necessary.
• Completes 6 professional development hours annually.
• Other duties as assigned by your supervisor and/or Executive Director.

Qualifications

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Associate Degree preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Must be 18 years old.

Minimum of one-year experience in working directly with

individuals with developmental disabilities. Related course work or experience with children with challenging behaviors a plus.
