About the Role
Are you passionate about creating a welcoming community and helping others achieve their health and wellness goals? The Family YMCA is looking for a Membership and Wellness Director to oversee the Member Experience Desk and wellness programs. In this role, you’ll play a key part in fostering an inclusive and vibrant environment where members feel supported and valued.
As the Membership and Wellness Director, you’ll work closely with our Operations Director (OD) and CEO to create innovative ways to grow our membership, improve retention, and enhance member experiences. You’ll also lead by example, working hands-on at the Member Services Desk during busy times and as needed.
We’re looking for someone with a big heart for community, strong leadership skills, and a willingness to roll up their sleeves to make our YMCA a welcoming space for all.
What You’ll Do
Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:
- Create a Welcoming Environment: Oversee the Member Experience Desk and ensure every member feels at home the moment they walk in.
- Lead Wellness Programs: Develop and implement engaging wellness, group exercise, and personal training programs to help members meet their fitness goals.
- Inspire Your Team: Recruit, train, and lead a passionate staff of desk and wellness team members, motivating them to deliver exceptional service.
- Promote Growth: Work on strategies to attract new members and retain current ones. You’ll also represent the YMCA at community events and membership initiatives.
- Ensure Safety & Cleanliness: Collaborate with the Operations Director to keep our facilities safe, clean, and up to YMCA standards.
- Budget Wisely: Help manage the budget for membership, group exercise, and the fitness floor to meet fiscal goals.
- Be a Team Player: Jump in to support the YMCA’s fundraising efforts and other special projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For
- Experience: At least two years of management experience in wellness, group exercise, or personal training programs. YMCA experience is a big plus!
- Education: A bachelor’s degree is preferred, but relevant experience and certifications will also be considered.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and public relations skills. Experience with programming, staff development, and using Microsoft Office.
- Certifications: CPR/AED/First Aid certification (or the ability to obtain it within three months of hire).

Physical Requirements
This role involves being mobile around the facility, standing or sitting for extended periods, and meeting drug-free and background check standards.
