This role is a part-time to full-time, hourly position that is responsible for assisting on our 8-acre urban farm. Being able to work in challenging weather conditions, move quickly, and think on your feet is essential. This position is located at our Carlisle, OH location.

Responsibilities and Typical Tasks

The Farm Worker - Level 1 is responsible for helping grow great vegetables, fruit, and herbs. This would include but is not limited to:

Field Production

• Prepare crop beds, spread compost
• Help transplant crops into the field
• Weed and cultivate crops
• Spread straw and staple down ground cloth
• Help lay plastic mulch

Irrigation

• Help set up irrigation runs
• Install irrigation headers for crop sections
• Help set up drip irrigation runs and fix leaks

Harvest and fulfillment

• Harvest crops on a regular basis
• Cut greens
• Keep basic records for what is harvested every day.

Miscellaneous Tasks

• There are always other tasks that you may be asked to do.

NOTE: This position has tremendous potential for growth with the company to a salaried, year-round job.

Qualifications and Qualities

Qualifications necessary:

• Background in farming, restaurant, or horticulture preferred
• Able to work within a dynamic, fluid, fast-paced environment with regular interaction with the public.
• Able to show up on time with reliable transportation.
• Long term commitment to the project

• Safe driving record

Additional Qualities:

• Passion and interest in working/learning about small-scale, low-input, sustainable vegetable, flower, and herb production
• Self-starter, self-disciplined, goal orientated
• Comfortable working in a high profile environment with regular filming being done for educational purposes
• Work effectively with minimal supervision
• Comfortable with kids and a family working environment
• Ability to work both independently and as a team member
• Be in good physical condition, work in all weather conditions, and able to lift 60 lbs
• Ability to work in a potentially challenging environment and be adaptable
• Have transportation and be punctual
• Energetic nature and willing to have fun
• Attention to detail and able to repeat instructions
• Outstanding communication (oral and written) skills; share and accept feedback in a team environment

Compensation

Compensation package:

• $15-18/hour for 40 hr week average (seasonal variability)
