Duties and Responsibilities
Fire Safety and Prevention
- Maintain a thorough understanding of fire protection equipment and be trained in their use, including fire extinguishers.
- Monitor workplace activities to identify and address potential fire hazards during operations.
- Adhere to and enforce the conditions and requirements outlined in the safety permit.
- Prevent ignition by ensuring flammable materials are kept away from potential ignition sources.
Patrol and Monitoring
- Conduct regular patrols of the worksite to identify and eliminate fire, life safety, or property hazards.
- Report hazardous conditions or any identified fires immediately by calling 9-1-1.
- Inspect the entire work area before and during shifts for potential leaks or releases of flammable vapors or liquids.
- Maintain constant communication with team members, ensuring visual and voice contact whenever possible.
Emergency Response
- Respond promptly to fires by extinguishing them using the appropriate equipment.
- Conduct evacuations efficiently and ensure familiarity with all evacuation exits and routes.
- Be prepared to operate fire extinguishers, hydrants, fixed monitors, and hose carts as needed.
- Halt operations if hazardous conditions are detected and notify the appropriate personnel.
Documentation and Reporting
- Keep an accurate log of fire watch activities, documenting patrols and incidents every 15 to 30 minutes.
- Report all incidents, including near-misses or hazardous conditions, to the supervisor.
General Responsibilities
- Ensure all employees are aware of the locations of firefighting equipment within the immediate area.
- Maintain and inspect the functionality of firefighting tools, including fire extinguishers, on a regular basis.
Work Environment
- Location: Indoor and outdoor settings with temperature ranges from moderate to extreme cold or heat.
- Major Activities: Walking, standing, speaking, listening, and observing for extended periods.

Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications:
- Language Proficiency: Must speak English and communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Education: Must have a High School Diploma or GED.
- Certification: Must hold a valid OSHA Certification (minimum 8 hours).
- Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old or meet the minimum age required by the State.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen or legally authorized to work in the United States.
Physical and Professional Requirements:
6. Uniform Compliance: Must wear the Fire Watch uniform and a reflective vest at all times while on duty.
7. Physical Ability: Must be able to walk and stand for extended periods.
8. Professional Conduct: Must be dressed appropriately, maintain good conduct, and demonstrate professionalism at all times.
Transportation and Technology:
9. Driver’s License: Must hold a valid driver’s license as required by the State.
10. Transportation: Must have access to reliable transportation.
11. Smartphone: Must own a smartphone capable of communication and documentation.
Drug-Free and Background Requirements:
12. Drug Testing: Must not use illegal drugs and must pass a drug test with negative results.
13. Background Check: Must undergo and pass an extensive background check, including criminal history, personal references, and employment verification.
Operational and Reporting Expectations:
14. Punctuality: Must report arrival and relief to the supervisor promptly.
15. Emergency Response: Must call 9-1-1 immediately in the event of a fire.
16. Log Maintenance: Must maintain the fire watch log on-site and submit daily logs to the supervisor.
17. Duties Continuity: Must not leave the location until properly relieved by the next assigned personnel.
