Salary Range:60,420.00-63,420.00

$3,000 Sign on bonus for successful candidates upon hire

 

Position Summary:

The Kessler Center-Easterseals NY is seeking a full time (40 hours) Speech Pathologist to work the school calendar with extended school year.

Our Speech Pathologists are part of a large interdisciplinary team that includes Psychiatry, Psychology, nursing, behavior specialists, occupational therapists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and social work. This team comes together to design the most innovative and creative approach to meeting the unmet needs of our children. We value the knowledge, experience, passion, and creativity of our clinical staff and encourage them to put their best practices into use as well as trying new and innovative strategies.

The Speech Pathologist will support students in individual and group therapy sessions per Individual Education Plan (IEP) requirements as well as supporting classroom and residential teams in the carryover of therapeutic supports across all 24-hours of the individual's day. In addition to direct therapy, the Speech Pathologist will conduct formal standardized evaluations, conduct observational assessments, train staff in wraparound strategies, conduct observations and skill assessments in the residential units, mentor, and coach direct care staff, attend and participate in CSE and residential planning meetings, support family skill development for carryover, and develop treatment plans with commensurate goals for each individual.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Evaluate communication skills to include: receptive language, expressive language, articulation, voice, fluency, oral-motor skills and hearing.
  • Develop a comprehensive service plan according to program policies and regulations, including school, outpatient, etc.
  • Provide therapy as outlined by treatment plan of communication disorders of Individual Treatment Plan/Individual Education Plan.
  • Maintain professional standards in and out of the Center in compliance with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Code of Ethics.
  • Instruct and counsel students/clients and/or their families regarding the specific nature of their communications impairments and how to best deal with this in various speaking situations.
  • Attend IEP meetings, staffing, case conferences and department meetings
  • Maintain appropriate records: progress notes and reports, evaluations, plans, case conference reports and discharge summaries.
  • Get and track insurance authorizations when applicable.
  • Complete departmental program evaluation in accordance with agency policy and procedures
  • Function as a case manager and assist in coordinating and obtaining other needed services.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree or its equivalent in the field of Speech Pathology
  • Hold Certificate of Clinical Competence from American Speech/Hearing Association
  • Current state Speech/Language Pathologist license
  • Three years of experience working with young children as a speech/language pathologist is preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
