Job Title: Upper School Math Teacher

FLSA Status: Exempt

ACA Status: Full-time

Job Summary

The Upper School Math teacher is responsible for planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program in an independent K-12 school environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Teachers within a grade level and/or subject work as a team under the supervision of the Division Head and are full-time exempt employees.

The Ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience teaching Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and integrated math curriculums in a high school setting. The candidate will have experience in a variety of modes of teaching and be highly skilled at differentiated instruction.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Actively support the mission of The Fletcher School and its leadership in the execution of their role and responsibilities.
  • Plan, prepare and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that are structured, multi-sensory and targeted to individual learning styles in order to facilitate active learning and assist students in achieving their potential.
  • Ensure that curriculum, lesson plans and evaluations follow established school procedures and pedagogy.
  • Collaborate with the grade-level team to achieve optimum outcome for each student.
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction.
  • Teach remotely via an online platform if necessary.
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures in accordance with the disciplinary systems of the School.
  • Provide appropriate feedback and encouragement to students on their work.
  • Monitor the progress of individual students and adjust teaching strategies as indicated.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of students' progress and development.
  • Participate in department, grade-level, school, and parent meetings.
  • Communicate necessary information regularly to students, colleagues and parents regarding student progress and student needs.
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
  • Prepare classroom for class activities.
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities.

Other Duties

  • Demonstrate preparation and skill in working with students from diverse cultural, economic and ability backgrounds.
  • Encourage parent and community involvement, obtain information for parents when requested, promptly return phone calls and answer emails.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Program, Professional Learning Communities, and other appropriate professional activities.
  • Participate in class trips, including overnight, full division field trips.
  • When assigned, support students in the role of an advisor, assist with carpool, monitor lunch and/or playground, and supervise Wednesday study hall.
  • Support or supervise extracurricular activities such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations as directed.
  • Work as a member of a team; support a collegial working environment that includes other departments and areas.
  • Model appropriate and positive behavior with students, parents, colleagues and other members of the community.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree in teaching from an accredited institution in the subject or grade level of posted opening.
  • 3 to 5 years teaching experience preferred.
  • Training or experience in Special Education preferred.
  • Have attended or willingness to attend Orton-Gillingham Educator course and multisensory math professional development.
  • Have or willingness to obtain Apple Teacher certification.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and implementation of relevant technology.

General Requirements

  • A criminal history background check is required of all employees.

Pay: $43,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
