A Cannabis IPM (Integrated Pest Management) Technician is responsible for implementing pest management strategies in a cannabis cultivation facility to prevent, identify, and manage pests and diseases. This role is critical in maintaining plant health and product quality while adhering to regulatory requirements.
Job Responsibilities :
Regularly inspect cannabis plants for signs of pests, diseases, or other issues that may impact plant health.
Identify and correctly diagnose pest and disease issues affecting cannabis plants.
Develop and implement Integrated Pest Management plans to control pests and diseases while minimizing the use of pesticides.
Implement biological control methods such as introducing beneficial insects or nematodes to manage pests.
Apply approved pesticides and herbicides when necessary, following all safety protocols and regulatory requirements.
Recommend and implement cultural practices that reduce the risk of pest and disease infestations, such as proper spacing, sanitation, and plant care.
Maintain accurate records of pest monitoring, IPM activities, and pesticide applications for regulatory compliance and internal reporting.
Coordinate with cultivation and inventory management teams to track the movement of plants and pest management products.
Train cultivation staff on pest identification, IPM protocols, and safety procedures.
Prepare and maintain documentation related to IPM procedures, pesticide usage, and regulatory compliance.
Monitor and maintain environmental conditions, such as temperature and humidity, to reduce pest and disease pressure.
Stay updated on industry best practices and new IPM techniques to enhance pest management strategies.
Qualifications :
Previous experience in IPM or pest management in agriculture, horticulture, or a related field is preferred.
Knowledge of cannabis regulations and compliance requirements in the relevant jurisdiction.
Familiarity with common cannabis pests, diseases, and their identification.
Understanding of biological and chemical pest control methods.
Attention to detail and precision in pest monitoring and control tasks.
Ability to follow standard operating procedures and work in a regulated environment.
Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
