Position Summary
This position works in tandem with The Food Bank Market Director for the day-to-day operations including warehouse management, staffing and supervision. The position oversees the warehouse, manages inventory and equipment, insures the shopping area is stocked and product is rotated, trains volunteers, and maintains the public appearance of the facility while creating a welcoming environment for all.
Duties & Responsibilities
General Duties
- Responsible for the day-to-day warehouse operation of The Market including receiving deliveries, tracking inventory and equipment, adhering to food safety standards, keeping the facility well-organized and developing and maintaining policies and records.
- Communicate and ensure efficient deliveries, sufficient inventory, and building of strong relationships with community partners.
- Assist Operations with the retail rescue program with daily pick-ups, preparation, storage and identifying and resolving inefficiencies or concerns
- Assist with daily intake operations in a manner that develops relationships with neighbors and ensure those receiving food or other services are treated with respect and dignity
- Lead tours of The Market to interested community members and volunteers
Staffing and Supervision
- Hire, train and supervise warehouse staff and the custodian, submit payroll, approve time off and make recommendations to the Director regarding salary and disciplinary actions
- Direct staff and volunteer work for the daily stocking of shelves, receiving food donations and handling food distribution; schedule and delegate work to personnel assigned to the Operations Manager in a timely and effective manner
- Collaborate with the Director on volunteer engagement to ensure that tasks are appropriately assigned, food safety/civil rights training completed, volunteers are trained to treat neighbors with dignity and respect and volunteers have an excellent experience at The Market
- Assist shoppers and volunteers as needed at The Market using de-escalation techniques, when necessary, to resolve conflicts and respond to incidents
Maintenance & Space
- Coordinate and oversee the cleaning and maintenance work of The Market facilities, to include daily cleaning of The Market (including documentation) and routine maintenance
- Report maintenance or vehicle problems to the Chief Operations Officer via the Facilities ticketing system
Reporting & Meetings
- Report incidents and pertinent information regarding the daily operations of The Market to the Director and Chief Programs Officer
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports as scheduled.
- Track and accurately record all food received and distributed through The Market
- Learn and become proficient with the in-take system for The Market
- Attend meetings at The Food Bank as requested
- All other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Three to five years of supervisory / management experience preferred
- Warehouse management skills, including the ability to drive a forklift, use a pallet jack, etc.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Self-starter who takes initiative to get tasks completed
- Ability to complete multiple priorities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent presentation skills and a high level of comfort speaking with groups of people
- Excellent conflict resolution skills
- Proficient computer skills, familiarity with Microsoft Windows & Office Suite, and the ability to learn new software programs
- Able to lift 50 pounds, load and unload deliveries
- Ability to obtain a valid Class E driver’s license and insurance
- Ability to be certified as a ServSafe Manager and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) team member within one year
