I. JOB TITLE: Director of Finance at Food Bank of North Alabama
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer
Location: Huntsville, AL
Salary Range: $70,000 to $78,000 per year, plus benefits including appropriate professional membership fees, licensing fees and continuing education.
Status: Exempt

II. JOB FUNCTION
The Director of Finance works closely with the Chief Executive Officer to manage an annual budget of $4 million. The Finance Director establishes the organizations financial status by developing and implementing systems for collecting, analyzing, verifying and reporting financial information. The Finance Director is responsible for ensuring general accounting practices, cash disbursements, cash receipts, budgeting, bank reconciliation, developing internal accounting controls and payroll. The Finance Director provides information and documentation for an annual independent audit and works closely with the auditor to ensure a successful audit. The Finance Director plays an instrumental role in the financial future of the Food Bank. This role is essential for driving the organization's fiscal health while fostering a culture of accountability and transparency.
III. BACKGROUND
The Food Bank of North Alabama is a nonprofit, tax exempt charity that feeds the hungry today and creates solutions that will end hunger tomorrow. Each year we distribute about 15 million pounds of food to people in North Alabama through a network of 230 charitable feeding programs – including food pantries, soup kitchens and child backpack programs. We also pursue proactive solutions that address hunger’s root causes through local food entrepreneurship and healthy food access initiatives.
IV. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Performs month-end financial close, including recording payrolls, inventories, receivables, payables and fixed assets.
· Reconciles bank statements and makes adjustments necessary to ensure accurate, current data for the general ledger.
· Performs fixed-asset accounting, including tracking and recording capital additions and disposals, calculates depreciation expense, obtains approval for capital expenditures and accurately adjusts the general ledger to reflect proper balances of fixed assets.
· Performs accounts payable functions including ensuring that proper documentation and disbursements comply with operating procedures.
· Interacts with staff members on payroll issues, time off records and handles confidential payroll materials and questions.
· Enters payroll information into payroll system, distributes payroll checks and ensures proper documentation of all actions for audit purposes.
· Verifies the accuracy of payroll tax reports and annual W-2 reporting.
· Ensures all accounting practices and principles are applied in financial processing and reporting.
· Ensures documentation and records are up-to-date for audit purposes.
· Works with the Development team on recording and tracking Grants and Donation receivables
· Prepares bank deposits and enters cash amounts into the computer in an accurate and timely manner.
· Avoids legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation; enforcing accounting regulations; recommending new procedures.
· Protects organization's value by keeping information confidential.
· Pays bills in a timely manner.
· Provides necessary information to CEO to ensure participation in federal programs.
· Assists in onboarding new employees
· Researches and compares benefit plans
· Handles the organization’s insurance policies and any claims
· Manages employee Cell phones, Hotspots, and Food Bank computer hardware inventory
· Handles implementing new software systems
· Works with staff on handling Software and IT issues as necessary
· Other duties as assigned
V. QUALIFICATIONS
· Knowledge of state and federal laws related to payroll, tax laws and inventory control.
· Knowledge of GAAP.
· Oral and written communication skills.
· Strong computer skills including Excel, Word, and data base management and finance software programs.
· Ability to meet deadlines.
· Ability to work with detail in an accurate manner.
· Ability to deal with information in a confidential manner.
· Ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple task in a timely manner.
· Strong budgeting, financial forecasting and financial analysis skills required.
· Ability to work with minimal supervision using independent judgment for decision making.
· Must have the ability to communication effectively with a diversity of people be it staff, donors, volunteers and/or vendors.

VI. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required. CPA is highly desired.
· Extensive experience in general accounting and payroll processing and processing of accounts payable.
· Experience with non-profits or governmental agencies a plus
· Minimum 5-7 years experience.
· Microsoft Business Central experience
· QuickBooks Online experience
· Bill.com experience
