What are the responsibilities and job description for the Math Specialist position at The Forest School: An Acton Academy?
The Forest School: An Acton Academy is seeking a full-time, in-person Math Specialist to design and deliver Math Labs and Math Office Hours that align with our mission, promises, and core beliefs. This role supports learners ages 6 to 18 in developing deep mathematical understanding through a self-directed approach.
Informed by our latest research, we believe that math mastery in a learner-driven environment depends on cultivating both mindsets (such as persistence, resourcefulness, and a belief in the relevance of math) and strategies (such as goal-setting, resource utilization, and problem-solving). The ideal Math Specialist will help young people build these habits using a blend of Socratic questioning, digital tools, collaborative problem solving—and by teaching learners how to use AI tutors effectively and responsibly.
This is a full-time, in-person role (Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:45 PM) with a salary range of $40,000–$60,000, commensurate with experience. No medical benefits at this time.
Responsibilities:- Lead engaging, inquiry-based Math Labs across elementary, middle, and high school studios
- Cultivate learner mindsets and strategies that support self-directed math mastery—including relevance, resourcefulness, goal-setting, and persistence
