The Assistant Manager - Production assists the General Manager in sorting, evaluating, and pricing all donated items. These items include clothing, shoes and accessories, domestics, showcase, and household goods.
The Assistant Manager supports the training and supervision of program participants assigned to the thrift store. Training includes Employment Readiness overview, specific assignment training (staff and program participants), sales, recycling, and discarding.
The Assistant Manager will meet with the General Manager and team to discuss program participants' evaluations, recognitions, and disciplinary issues.
The Assistant Manager must hold to the mission, vision, and core values of The Foundry and be willing to sign The Foundry's Statement of Faith. The Manager reports directly to General Manager and is responsible for upholding the policies the Board of Directors set forth. The Manager's responsibilities include but are not limited to the duties defined in this description.
Responsibility Description
Staff Management β Assist General Manager:
Coach and mentor staff to meet professional development goals
- Manage the team workflow by planning workloads, allocating tasks, and
monitoring progress against goals
- Oversee staff schedules to maintain coverage during all hours of operation within your department
- Communicate with team members regarding new initiatives, policy revisions, and ministry updates
- Maintain safety standards by complying with operational objectives, ministry
training, and reporting procedures
- Responsible for relaying and confirming receipt of all Foundry-wide emergency messages to those in your department
Store Management:
- Support the General Manager in the daily operations, including daily deposits
and reports
- Oversee all store and production operations in the absence of the General
Manager
- Serve as the store liaison to the Assistant Manager - Warehouse in the absence of the General Manager
- Ensure that staff, program participants, and customers follow all store procedures and protocol
- Responsible for maintaining a neat, orderly, and clean production area at all
times
- Communicate with Farm program staff on issues that concern both departments of the ministry needs when necessary
- Promote a collegial atmosphere within all thrift store departments, working
cooperatively with team members to help them and the department attain their
overall goals
- Collaborate with General Manager and staff to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production goals and metrics
- Assist General Manager in the staging of inventory in designated production
areas
Production Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the Production department
- Ensure that staff and program participants follow all procedures and protocols
- Responsible for maintaining a neat, orderly, and clean production area at all
times
- Collaborate with General Manager and staff to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production goals and metrics
Employment Readiness:
- Liaison between the store and Farm; attend scheduled meetings as requested by the Farm Director and General Manager
- Ensure that program participants consistently provide exemplary customer
service
- Communicate with Farm program staff on issues and concerns
- Evaluate program participants per program phase guidelines and participate in weekly phase meetings (in person or via teleconferencing)
- Submit program participant G.R.O.W. action requests as needed
- Assist in the supervision, placement, training, and cross-training of all program participants assigned to Production
- Provide workforce training to participants in soft and technical skills when
applicable.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Certificate, or GED
Experience:
- One (1) year of experience in retail management
- One (1) year of experience in thrift store sales, Production, and service
Requirements:
- Able to use a computer/tablet to perform job duties.
- Must be able to work required overtime as assigned by General Manager,
including but not limited to evening shifts and special events.
- Physical demands of this position include extensive standing and walking, lifting to 50 pounds regularly, and pushing and pulling bins, racks, and carts to 1,000 pounds with assistance.
- You must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, and climb a step ladder approximately three feet in height to reach materials.
- You must be able to work in a retail and warehouse environment, including
exposure to dust and fluctuating temperatures.
- You must express yourself verbally and accurately, loudly, or quickly convey
verbal instructions.
- You must hear and understand speech in person, via telephone or other devices, and recognize work-associated sounds such as vehicle horns or emergency sirens.
- You must have near and far visual acuity and clear peripheral vision.
