Job summary: The Custodian performs, assists, monitors and schedules interior/exterior cleaning,
Responsible to: Director of Facilities
Regular Hours: Determined by Supervisor, Full-time (40 hours); part-time (hours determined by supervisor);
seasonal (summer or school breaks)
Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities
Evaluated: An annual written evaluation is provided by the direct supervisor.

Essential Job Functions
· Perform, assist with exterior cleaning, maintenance and repairs of school grounds including but not limited to:
o Snow removal
o Landscaping
o Painting
- Perform, assist with interior cleaning, maintenance, and repairs of school including, but not limited to:
o Floors (sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing, stripping, buffing, etc.)
o Student, staff bathrooms cleaning and trash removal
o Maintaining paper products in restrooms
o Windows
o Water fountains
o Carpet cleaning
o Painting of hallways, offices, classrooms, when needed
o Kitchen and cafeteria cleaning and disinfecting
o Daily trash removal from all classrooms, common areas and offices
· Assist with inventory of necessary janitorial supplies
- Ensure and maintain a safe and healthy environment
- All other duties as assigned by administration and/or direct supervisor
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Working knowledge of cleaning materials and equipment
· Knowledge of the English language so as to understand operating instructions for cleaning equipment and materials and safety and accident prevention
· Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
· Ability to hear the normally spoken word at 25 feet
· Ability to work outdoors under adverse weather conditions
· Ability to climb ladders and stairs
· Ability to pick up and carry 65 pounds
· Ability to operate cleaning, grass-cutting machines, and hand tools
· Ability to stand, walk, push, balance, stoop, kneel crouch, twist, reach over the head, and reach forward for prolonged period of time
· Ability to willingly attend and participate in training sessions
· Ability to learn and practice acceptable cleaning methods
Employee Safety
This employee is responsible for the use of safety devices and protective equipment in order to minimize the frequency and severity of work-related accidents. The employee is responsible for using safe practices and methods in the operation and supplies related to their job.
The employee is further responsible for correcting any conditions within the building or grounds that may be hazardous to employees, students, or staff assigned to the building and reporting same to the appropriate administrator and/or direct supervisor.
