What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maintenance Technician position at The Freedom Rail Group?
Purpose:
Under the direction of the Terminal Manager and/or Assistant Terminal Manager, is responsible for coordinating the general maintenance and upkeep of buildings, grounds, and equipment. Responsible for maintaining electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and related systems. Performs the work of employees and other duties as required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, lead and execute preventative maintenance (PM) according to PM schedule to minimize equipment downtime
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance tasks, such as checking, cleaning, or repairing equipment, to detect and prevent problems.
- Complete reactive maintenance on production lines to recover from equipment failures by repairing mechanical, electrical, and structural components
- Conduct creative problem solving to identify and perform equipment improvements
- Coach operators and peers on basic maintenance and equipment settings
- Participate in special project work on equipment upgrades or installations
- Work with team members and operators to ensure the daily production schedule is met
- Maintain partnerships with team members and vendors using effective communication
- Study blueprints, schematics, manuals, or other specifications to determine installation procedures.
- Test faulty equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test equipment or software, and applying knowledge of the functional operation of electronic units and systems.
- Coordinate efforts with other workers involved in installing or maintaining equipment or components.
- Inspect components of industrial equipment for accurate assembly and installation or for defects, such as loose connections or frayed wires.
- Heavy equipment operations ie: Skid loaders, forklifts, front end loader, snorkel lifts – preferably certified
- Solicits bids for outside contract maintenance work and schedules and supervises outside contractors.
- Order and purchase supplies, parts and equipment for production plant.
- Keep parts storage and shop areas in a neat, well stocked, clean, organized manner.
- Regularly inspect plant to ensure that required maintenance and repairs are completed.
- Regularly inspect plant for safety issues.
- Ability to work on diesel engines.
- Basic knowledge of overall plant operations, machinery and equipment and the maintenance requirements of them.
