Position Overview
The 8th Grade Science Teacher will teach a comprehensive science curriculum that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a hands-on approach to learning. The SEPUP-inspired, issues-based curriculum emphasizes chemistry topics, environmental studies, and cell biology to prepare students for high school science while nurturing their role as global citizens.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for science education, strong content knowledge, and a commitment to meeting the needs of middle school learners in a collaborative and inclusive environment.
Primary Responsibilities
- Deliver and enhance engaging, inquiry-based lessons aligned with Derby Academy's mission and academic standards.
- Incorporate hands-on experiments, technology, and interdisciplinary projects into the curriculum.
- Foster a classroom culture that values collaboration, curiosity, and mutual respect.
- Use formative and summative assessments to guide instruction and provide feedback to students and families.
- Collaborate with colleagues to align curriculum, develop elective STEM opportunities, and participate in school-wide science initiatives.
- Serve as an advisor to a small group of middle school students, supporting their academic and social-emotional growth.
- Participate in school events, committees, and professional development opportunities.
- Willingness to be an athletic coach (preferred)
