The Medication Technician is a valuable team member responsible for providing medications/treatments to our resident population.
We are a 106 bed assisted living/adult home in Oswego New York that prides itself on providing our residents the highest quality of services in a caring, home-like environment.
We are looking for professionals who have either previously worked as a Medication Technician or would be interested in being trained to become one. We have full-time, part time and per diem opportunities. The primary role of the Medication Technician is to ensure residents receive their ordered medications in a timely manner.

Job Summary: Responsible for the daily encouragement, supervision and observation with medications, treatments and follow through with prescribed services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Encourages and reinforces need for safe environment related to equipment, mental status changes, fall precautions, first aide. Hallways are free of equipment, supplies and debris.
- Properly documents within the electronic medical record the acceptance and/or refusal of self medication
- Explains all care procedures, explaining to resident, prior to performance
- Assists with and monitoring the self-administration of medications by residents
- Recognizes and reports any abuse or neglect potential
- Responsible for ordering, organizing and reviewing medications
- Provides feedback and suggestion when changes occur in medications, communicates effectively with pharmacy
- Assist with eating, care of teeth, grooming, bathing, restroom, dressing, walking as required within Service Plan (HHA or PCA Only)
- Reports any change in the patients mental and physical condition to supervisor
- Will NOT perform the following activities: Foley Catheter Irrigations, Sterile Dressing Changes, Enemas, Injections or application of heat in any form.
- Follows Chain of Command to ensure proper communication
- Ensures 12 hours of Inservice education completed annually
- Meets current documentation standards and policies
- Follows through as needed on information given by shift report, resident or family regarding suggestions, changes or concerns
- Treats residents and their families with respect and dignity
- Demonstrates competence in technical and manual skills according to scope of practice
- Provides reminders for meals and medications
- Functions as a resident advocate by protecting and ensuring residents rights
- Observes and ensures the environment is well maintained and assists in providing a safe environment for residents, staff and visitors
- Knowledgeable of work order and communicates necessary issues to environmental services
- Communicates with Interdisciplinary team to ensure residents needs are met
- Consistently follows the policies and procedures of the home
- Reports any incidents or accidents to supervisor
- Maintains First Aid Certification
- Works collaboratively with the pharmacy, MD Offices and Resident to ensure timely receipt of medication and service scripts.
