Overview:
The duties of the Steward position are responsible for the wash and sanitize pots, pans and other kitchen utensils/equipment according to hotel specifications and standards. Clean and maintain equipment and pot washing/kitchen/cafeteria/compactor/storage areas. Assist in washing wares by operating the dishwashing machine. Complete other special cleaning projects as assigned. The Steward purpose is to ensure that the level of service provided to the guest is highly individualized and that each guest feels that their comfort and convenience are the principal concerns of The Gasparilla Inn.
Essential Job Functions:
Use correct cleaning chemicals for designated items, according to OSHA regulations and hotel requirements.
Set up and organize work station with designated supplies and equipment; report shortages to supervisor. Replenish as needed throughout the shift.
Check the working condition of equipment and machinery in accordance with specifications; rectify any deficiencies.
Washes dishes, pots, pans, etc. in dish machine or by hand.
Assists in stocking and rotating of incoming products.
Assists in basic food preparation as assigned by the Chef or Food & Beverage Manager.
Empties the kitchen trash receptacles and properly disposes of garbage.
Stores all dishes and other wares in proper areas.
Performs daily cleaning to include dry storage, walk-in shelving, steam tables, hoods and exhaust system.
Maintains sanitation standards in assigned areas.
Sweeps and mops floors.
Alerts chef or supervisor of any equipment breakdown.
Maintains flexibility to take on new and different tasks as directed by the Department Manager.
Clean refrigerators/freezers, service hallways, service elevators and other items as assigned.
Assist in plating up Banquet hot meals as assigned.
Follow maintenance program and cleaning schedule.
Perform duties in other areas of kitchen as assigned.
Skills:
Knowledge of safety and injury procedures
Ability to perform duties with attention to details, speed, accuracy, follow-through.
Ability to follow directions.
Ability to adapt to meet priority changes of work flow or requirements.
Ability to operate designated machinery.
Ability to remain extremely alert while operating machinery.
Ability to exert physical effort in transporting equipment and wares.
Ability to withstand high temperatures, moisture and noise levels in work areas.
Ability to endure abundant physical movements in cleaning various work areas.

No prior training or experience.
