What are the responsibilities and job description for the K-6 Dance Teacher position at The Gathering Place?
Job Responsibilities
- Support the mission and design principles of The Gathering Place.
- Embody The Gathering Place (TGP) Collective norms.
- Work with an assigned caseload of classes ranging from Kindergarten-6th grade. The number of classes seen each day may vary depending on the scheduling needs of the school.
- Design and execute scheduled art showcases.
- Ensure student work is beautifully showcased throughout the campus.
- Prepare, plan, and implement lessons aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).
- Provide rubric-based data for student narratives that are aligned with the TGP Design Principles.
- Support the social-emotional, behavioral, and academic growth of students.
- Adapt teaching methods, lessons, and materials to meet each student’s needs.
- Create a classroom environment that is safe, well-maintained, and reflects the TGP model.
- Implement TGP school norms, behavior structures and expectations, behavior management systems, and restorative practices.
- Follow Individual Education Programs (IEPs), contribute to the creation/updating of IEPs (if applicable), and participate in Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
- Follow existing 504 plans or contribute to new 504 plans.
- Follow existing Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) or contribute to new BSPs.
- Embrace a culture of feedback to continue developing skills that support student's learning and development.
- Collaborate with teachers, instructors, members of the TGP collective, school leaders, and district staff.
- Monitor recess for an assigned caseload of classes.
- Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with students and families.
- Send weekly updates to caregivers through the school-wide communication platform.
- Respond to all caregiver messages through our school-wide communication platform within time windows set forth by the school.
- Participate in the school's daily functions, including, but not limited to, arrival and dismissal duties, lunch duties, recess monitoring, and coverage.
- Attend critical school events such as professional development days, student events, and events for caregivers and/or community members.
- Meet professional obligations, including timeliness and consistency in meeting deadlines, among all other policies outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Prepare narratives as well as other periodic updates of progress and student learning.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documents.

- This is a full-time, 10-month exempt position.
- The workday is 7:15 - 4:00 pm. Some evening events will be required, such as exhibitions of learning (showcases) or school events.
- There will be one, one-hour staff meeting after school from 4:30 PM - 5:30 PM every two weeks required for this role.
- This role may be asked to serve on campus or district committees
- There are 14 days of required summer professional development for new employees in July OR 8 days of professional development for returning staff in August, and several professional development days built into the calendar throughout the year.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Must have at least one year of teaching experience
