I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary :
The George Washington University Law School Health Law & Policy Center is an initiative of the George Washington University Law School that seeks to produce legal and policy solutions to improve the value of health care delivered to the American public. Through education, research, and convenings, the Health Law & Policy Center seeks to address many of the most urgent challenges facing the nation’s health sector : mitigating unsustainable costs, improving quality, encouraging socially desirable pharmaceutical and technological innovation, inadequate and inequitable access to care, and integrating healthcare delivery into a broader and more impactful social policy.
The Health Law & Policy Center will collaborate with scholars across GW, other universities, DC think tanks, and foundations to develop and produce meaningful scholarship that will inform all levels of health policy.
The Associate Program Director, GW Health Law & Policy Center will be chiefly responsible for advancing research projects and producing quality scholarship, with a priority on research projects that fund the Center and are managed by the faculty co-directors. They will also generally support the needs and programs of the Health Law & Policy Center, as needed, and will be encouraged to develop an independent research agenda with the support of the GW Law faculty.
Responsibilities of the Associate Program Director :
- Coordinate management and execution of the GW Health Law & Policy Programs under the oversight of the Faculty Directors, including academic advising, creation of program materials, planning and executing events, community outreach, marketing, student recruitment, and other relationship building activities with students, faculty, alumni, and supporters of the Health Law and Policy Program.
- Manage research and policy work required by funded projects under the direction of the Program Directors, including overseeing research assistants, obtaining data, producing written manuscripts, and advancing the research required by funded projects.
- Coordinate and support symposia, conferences, panels, roundtables, and other scholarly, professional and public facing projects and gatherings of scholars, practitioners, non-profit leaders, health sector leaders, philanthropic leaders, and government officials initiated by individual Health Law and Policy Program faculty members as well as student groups focused on health law and policy.
- Work with Faculty Directors to draft research proposals and grant writing; work with the Law School Dean’s office, Executive Director of Development, Faculty Director(s), and alumni and prospective donors to support fund-raising.
- Participate in student education, including supervising student research and participating in student instruction.
- Work with the Student Bar Association, the Faculty Director(s) and other members of the Health Law and Policy Program faculty, and other relevant offices and student groups on health law-related events, competitions, and awards.
- Advise students affiliated with the Program on academic matters, professional opportunities, and career mentorship.
- Create opportunities to promote and showcase the scholarly work and public outreach of the Health Law and Policy faculty.
- Coordinate publicizing the work of Health Law and Policy Program faculty and students by developing programmatic communication materials in conjunction with the Law School and University administration, including the Dean and the Communications Office, as well as providing input to Law School publications on related program topics / issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
The position is based at GW’s Foggy Bottom Campus in Washington, DC.
Minimum Qualifications :
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
