This position serves as Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of the Georgia Advocacy Office (GAO). The GAO is the federally mandated Protection and Advocacy System for individuals with disabilities or mental illness in Georgia pursuant to 42 U.S.C. §10801 et seq. Protection and advocacy (P&A) systems are mandated under federal law to protect people with disabilities from abuse and neglect and to advocate for the human and legal rights of people with disabilities. The priorities of GAO are to (1) protect individuals with disabilities from, and to pursue a remedy for, incidents of abuse and neglect; (2) respond to allegations of discrimination and legal rights violations of people with disabilities; and (3) promote the integration and self-determination of people with disabilities.
The Executive Assistant to the CEO will assure a smooth-running office by providing ongoing assistance and support to the CEO, supervising the Administrative Support Team, and overseeing office operations. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a dedicated commitment to the rights of people with disabilities and the skills necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. This position reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Major Tasks and Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing executive assistance and support to the CEO.
- Oversee staff operations; assist in fostering good morale; role model daily.
- Serve on the Administrative Support Team; act as Team Director and supervise all support staff work.
- Direct the office correspondence process and provide a concluding review of outgoing correspondence.
- Review GAO communications to help ensure translation of GAO values.
- Participate on the publications committee and oversee the creation, editing, and printing of publications.
- Assist in providing leadership of the human resources (HR) function.
- Participate in negotiation of key contracts.
- With the CEO, manage the support and development of the GAO Board of Directors.
- Serve on the GAO Executive Team and GAO Management Team.
- Address office systems problems and their resolution.
- Act as liaison with property management.
- Coordinate the office hiring process and participate in orientation.
- Manage the office filing system and procedures for ordering office furniture.
