Job Summary
The Heavy Equipment Operator - Paving Crew will be responsible for preparing the site for paving operations, ensuring that all necessary groundwork is completed to facilitate a smooth and efficient paving process. This individual will be operating and maintaining heavy equipment such as a paver, paving roller, and paver shuttle buggy to clear, grade, and level the site. This position will assist in excavating and removing debris, ensuring proper drainage, and preparing subgrade material to meet project specifications. Union membership is required within 60 days of employment for this position.

Essential Job Duties And Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy construction equipment, including but not limited to a paver, paving roller, and paving shuttle buggy.
- Prepare the construction site by removing obstacles and ensuring the area is clear for further operations.
- Execute tasks in strict accordance with project specifications to meet quality standards.
- Perform precise and accurate work to ensure optimal project outcomes.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
- Provide support to other team members, including laborers, flaggers, and other skilled workers.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to maintain a secure work environment.
- Properly wear and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required by safety standards.
- Maintain clear and effective communication with supervisors and colleagues to ensure coordinated efforts.
- Promptly report any safety hazards, incidents, or issues to supervisors for immediate resolution.
- Must be flexible and able to adjust to changing tasks and responsibilities based on project requirements.
- Excellent verbal communication skills.
- Capable of working both collaboratively within a team and independently, depending on project needs.
- Skilled at understanding and following verbal instructions to ensure tasks are completed accurately.
- A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) is required.
- Basic familiarity with construction tools and equipment is essential.
- Previous experience operating heavy equipment is preferred.
- Ability to work long hours including some nights and weekends as needed.*
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.*
- Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment.*
- Must maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment.*
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.*
- Periodically exposed to high levels of noise, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and dust typically associated with construction projects.*
