Job Title: Safety and Human Resource Manager
Classification: Full-Time, exempt

Position Description
The Safety and Human Resource Manager leads the effort to establish and retain an inclusive, diverse, and high-performing workforce. Coordinating recruitment, onboarding, training, workplace and campus safety programs. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local employment and benefits laws and regulations. Facilitates timely resolution of employee relations issues while maintaining an appropriate balance between employee and management advocacy.
Responsibilities
- Implement inclusive recruitment and interview strategies (including training and supporting hiring managers).
- Design and execute a comprehensive orientation and onboarding program that introduces new employees to the mission, values, key policies, and protocols
- Track new hire orientation paperwork to ensure staff are onboarded effectively and consistently.
- Oversee campus safety operations, including safety orientations, training, OSHA compliance, first aid inventories, emergency procedures, and incident response, while maintaining safety databases, addressing hazards, and ensuring a safe environment for 400 staff and patrons.
- Assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures, prepare and maintain the employee handbook and the policies and procedures manual.
- Handle employee relations counseling, exit interviews and general inquiries
- Provide guidance and coaching to employees, leadership, and supervisors to guarantee that staff are informed of avenues for support and reporting concerns.
- Oversee employee benefits programs, including paid time off and other forms of leave; health, dental, vision, and supplemental insurances; COBRA, FMLA, USERRA, and COVID-19 legislation; and the retirement plan.
- Manage job descriptions in partnership with directors and managers to ensure they are up-to-date, effective, and consistent for all positions and incorporate equity competencies and responsibilities.
- Implement, support and monitor a comprehensive performance evaluation process
- Lead and instigate collaboration with EDI consultants and staff teams
- Assess, monitor, and endeavor to help shape the culture to ensure inclusivity for staff, contractors, and vendors.
- Provide consistent guidance and support in assessing and refining compensation practices to include unbiased salary structures, pay increases, and bonuses.
- Provides coaching and counseling support to management and supervisors in the areas of employee relations, performance management, training, and policy interpretation.

This position will oversee seasonal safety staff and/or apprentices.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, photocopiers and smartphones.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. These demands include the ability to remain seated or stand for extended periods of time; frequent use of hands and fingers for tasks such as typing, filing, and handling office equipment. The employee must be able to lift and carry office supplies, documents, or equipment up to 50 pounds, and occasionally bend, twist, or reach to access files, shelves, or other equipment. Clear communication, both in person and via phone or video calls, is necessary. The position also requires the ability to see and read documents and screens for prolonged periods.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work for September thru April are Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm; hours in May – August will average 50 hour work week, often 6 days a week depending on rehearsal and performance calendar.
Travel
Little to no travel is expected for this position.
Required Education and Experience
A minimum of three to five years of experience in human resources or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of relevant experience and education will also be considered.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification or ability to obtain certification within 12 months of hire date. A deep commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism is expected.
