POSITION SUMMARY
The Custodial Supervisor position is responsible for being part of and supervising a team that maintains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for The Governor’s Academy community. This is a full-time and non-exempt staff position.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Schedule and supervise a team of three custodians. We anticipate that this is 10% supervising and 90% performing janitorial and cleaning duties.
- Specify and place orders for cleaning supplies and equipment as needed.
- Perform general cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and dusting in classrooms, dormitories, offices, and common areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, and other high-traffic areas following proper sanitation protocols.
- Empty and dispose of trash and recycling bins throughout the campus and ensure outdoor areas are free of litter.
- Conduct minor repairs on facilities and equipment, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaks, and maintaining doors and windows.
- Monitor and restock cleaning supplies and report inventory needs via the Academy’s work request system, SchoolDude.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of school events, including moving furniture and arranging spaces.
- Identify and report any safety hazards or repair needs, and adhere to all school safety protocols and guidelines.
- Assist with basic outdoor maintenance, including sweeping walkways, raking leaves, and clearing snow as needed.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities to support the overall upkeep of the campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous custodial or maintenance experience is required.
- Previous supervisory experience is required.
- Attention to detail and a commitment to high standards of cleanliness and safety.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A friendly and professional demeanor when interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
- Must be able to work collegially, be committed to working in a diverse community; have experience working and communicating with diverse populations; and enjoy working with young people in a boarding school environment.
- Ability to pass a background check per school policies.
- Must have a valid driver’s license
HOURS
- Monday – Friday, typically 07:00 am to 3:30 pm. Overtime, weekends, and nights are required at times.
- Hourly/Non-Exempt Essential personnel.

To perform essential functions of the job, the following applies:
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds, standing for long periods, and working in various weather conditions.
