OUR SCHOOL
The Governor’s Academy, the oldest boarding school in New England, inspires and engages inquisitive students in ninth through twelfth grade. Our 456-acre campus is thirty miles north of Boston and five miles south of Newburyport, a classic New England coastal town. Govs has approximately 400 students and 200 employees.

POSITION SUMMARY
This is a full-time photography teaching position, and the successful applicant will be able to teach photography to novices and to those taking AP Photo who will be submitting artwork to regional and national scholastic competitions. Additionally, art department teachers at Governor's are encouraged to create unique, intensive, semester-long classes to be added to the course catalog. The Kaiser Arts Center includes a digital media lab, photo darkrooms, ceramics studio and display galleries. At Governor’s Academy, the Fine Arts are an integral part of all disciplines, emphasizing creative thinking and self-expression as essential components of one’s overall academic experience. Also, this position will include ongoing contact with and direct responsibility for the academic and social life of students on campus (in loco parentis) and will involve specific responsibilities that include coaching or other afternoon program involvement, possible residential life duty, and student advising after one’s first year on the faculty. With Teaching Faculty status comes the expectation of consistent involvement in the lives of students on campus.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
B.A. required Master of Fine Arts preferred; strong background in photography; experience in teaching in an independent school or college setting preferred; experience in coaching and/or playing interscholastic athletics and/or experience directing in the performing arts preferred; must be able to work collegially; must be committed to working in a diverse community and have the ability to communicate effectively with diverse populations; must enjoy working with young people in a boarding school environment. Must have a valid driver’s license and be willing to drive students in school-owned cars, vans, and mini-buses.
