The following are skills needed to perform the essential functions of caregiving of this job in the interest of residents/patients. The ability to:
· Responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, and implementation of the activities program for residents.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Activities Assistant provides routine nursing care in a manner conducive to the comfort and safety of residents in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations, and are delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties by the Charge Nurse, Director of Nursing Services, Administrator or other assigned supervisory personnel to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
The following job functions have been determined to be essential to the position of an activities assistant. Because of fluctuations in workload demands, as well as tasks often overlapping, frequency ranges and percentages vary by assignment, day of week, day, evening or night shift, etc. However, low frequency and percentage or duration of time spent on a particular task may not indicate lack of importance. Our Community reserves the right to modify this list of essential and other functions as deemed necessary.
· Assist the Activities Director with planning and arranging internal and external monthly activity programs for residents focusing on variety and entertainment as well as physical well being.
· Assist with preparing and posting the monthly activities calendar with decorations on bulletin board.
· Assist with the coordination of seasonal decorations for facility.
· Assess and maintain and adequate supply of materials to implement activity programs and notify the Activity Director of any needs.
· Assist with the coordination of the serving of refreshments at functions.
· Assist with the set-up of all activities to ensure proper equipment, staffing, and supplies for an event.
· Assist with the coordination of worship services with local churches.
· Assist with the coordination of the volunteer program and ensure that all volunteers thoroughly understand their task.
· Actively encourage residents to participate in all activities.
· Assist Director with new resident orientations to the facility and staff.
· Plan and implement evening and weekend functions as necessary.
· Be responsible for the safety of the resident under your supervision. Complete an Incident Report for any incident, accident or unusual occurrence to any resident, staff member or visitor, which occurred in the facility.
· Prepare "Thank You" notes and/or letters of appreciation for individuals or groups who assist the facility in its activity program.
· Assist the Director with arranging transportation requirements as needed, concerning medical/dental appointment requirements and all other residential needs.
· Assist with implementing the Emergency and Disaster Plan.
· Attend all mandatory meetings and in-service training sessions.
· Perform all duties assigned in an effective, timely and professional manner.
· Observe infection control procedures and properly correct if needed.
· Report to work on time as scheduled and consistently demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
· Report to work in neat, clean attire and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance according to the uniform policy.
· Maintain a professional attitude and consistently work cooperatively with residents, families, supervisor, coworkers and ancillary service providers.
· Understand and follow all company policies including the Employee Handbook.
· Complete other duties as assigned.
As an essential function of the job, Activities Assistants are regularly called on to effectively report emergencies such as residents’/patient’s condition changes, as well as accidents and incidents, complaints and grievances by residents/patients and their families, etc. It is determined that Activities Assistants have the ability to communicate with others and do not pose a direct threat to the safety or health of self or others.
OTHER
In addition to the essential job functions described above, the following job functions are important to the proper fulfillment of the duties of Activities Assistant
- Must be creative, friendly, cooperative, courteous and concerned about residents' physical and mental condition.
EDUCATION REQUIRED
In the interest of residents/patients, Activities Assistant will have the preferred minimum educational background of having a high school diploma or GED equivalency. Ability to read, write, speak clearly and follow oral and written instructions.
EXPERIENCE
Specialized training in senior activities programs is preferred, working in a nursing home, hospital, home health agency, or other health care facility.
